In an astonishing turn, George Soros and Charles Koch team up to end US ‘forever war’ policy
BOSTON GLOBE ^ | 6/30/2019 | STEPHEN KINZER

Posted on 06/30/2019 10:22:57 PM PDT by bitt

BESIDES BEING BILLIONAIRES and spending much of their fortunes to promote pet causes, the leftist financier George Soros and the right-wing Koch brothers have little in common. They could be seen as polar opposites. Soros is an old-fashioned New Deal liberal. The Koch brothers are fire-breathing right-wingers who dream of cutting taxes and dismantling government. Now they have found something to agree on: the United States must end its “forever war” and adopt an entirely new foreign policy.

In one of the most remarkable partnerships in modern American political history, Soros and Charles Koch, the more active of the two brothers, are joining to finance a new foreign-policy think tank in Washington. It will promote an approach to the world based on diplomacy and restraint rather than threats, sanctions, and bombing. This is a radical notion in Washington, where every major think tank promotes some variant of neocon militarism or liberal interventionism. Soros and Koch are uniting to revive the fading vision of a peaceable United States. The street cred they bring from both ends of the political spectrum — along with the money they are providing — will make this new think tank an off-pitch voice for statesmanship amid a Washington chorus that promotes brinksmanship.

“This is big,” said Trita Parsi, former president of the National Iranian American Council and a co-founder of the new think tank. “It shows how important ending endless war is if they’re willing to put aside their differences and get together on this project. We are going to challenge the basis of American foreign policy in a way that has not been done in at least the last quarter-century.”

I have NO idea who you are and certainly don’t give a flip what YOU think, regarding sign up dates.

Even though you are a new s/n to me, your very rude *routine* is more than just old...it’s repulsive and obnoxious.

If you/poster you pinged are so tenured....why not consider becoming a regular (monthly/quarterly) donor in support of this great site?

Please do not post to me, again.

Sorry, Jane. My comment was accurate. Anyone who says Soros and the Koch brothers are the same has no intellectual capacity. If you can prove the comment correct, I will apologize. Yes, I am aware the Koch brothers like the open borders but there are many more dozens of issues where they do not agree. I will be waiting.

Sorry Mr. Grey, but prove Soros and the Koch brothers are the same. I expect no response.

The Koch brothers actions pretty much have revealed that they are NOT conservatives.

I doubt it.

Aren't there libertarian think tanks (CATO, etc.) that don't support interventionism?

And hard left ones (IPS) equally opposed to US policy?

This may just be an outfit in the billionaires' back pocket that they can use to do their bidding.

They both like open borders.
Koch Bros. are big fans of gay marriage. I’ll bet Soros is, but he has other fish (buying DA seats) to fry.

Sorry but that's not good enough. I know the Koch brothers like open borders, but there are hundreds of other issues they disagree on.

To say they are the same is intellectual dishonesty. For one, the Koch brothers spent $100 million dollars in the 2016 campaign to elect republicans. The did not campaign for Trump directly, but they spent millions to register republican voters and to elect republicans in the House and Senate. In 2018, they focused to keep the Senate republican. So that proves they are not the same.

Soros spends his money to elect radical democrats in literally everywhere in the US...both local, state and federal. Soros is a true menace to not only the US but the world.

They are common friends of the Deep State, and enemies of ordinary working Deplorables, the overlap is Open Borders / Immigration / Deplorables Replacement.

This is not to say that the overlap, is the only area they are active in.

They both are finding different areas to make pests of themselves with.

Someone on one of these FR threads was a discussion of how awful the Koch Bros. are / were to work for.

They don't like their employees, and probably begrudge every nickle spent on their salaries and benefits.

Dave....I’m sorry....but, as a very tenured FReeper, you, more than most, should see right through what the evil Koch Bros have done to not just compare to the anti-American, anti-Trump $oros, but to actually be considered his evil equal.

Here is just a short sampling for you of their very similar, if not exact, stances that they have, that side with evil Soros....

So, it appears that anyone who is so blinded by what ever keeps them in the Koch Korner are the ones with ‘no intellectual capacity’....at the very least...and, certainly not enough intellectual capacity to prove worthy of this CONSERVATIVE website.

Promoting the $0ros Bros/Koch partnership just seems anti-American, Dave. Not a thing to be taken lightly, in these dangerous times.

I’ve given you ample proof. Now, you tell all of us why YOU think the Koch Bros are NO DIFFERENT than your man $oros....other than that they give $$ to Open Borders RINOs.

Don’t feel bad...many of us were also fooled by the evil Koch Bros/American for Prosperity/Cato, etc. My eyes (as were many other’s, here) were opened the moment they announced their anti-Trump meeting, near Cochella, CA, during the primary.

What’s so “astonishing” about this? Soros and the Koch boys pray to a common god: $$$. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them in cahoots on a lot of other things.

David Koch died today, but David Koch was a big supporter of abortion and queer “marriage.” Charles was the “conservative” of the two, a Mitt Romney GOP establishment, open borders type.

IF they are united it’s because they see the idealogy of perpetual war being exposed for what it is...a moneylaundering scheme to rob the US treasury. Thanks to Trump.
