Senate Republicans are scrambling to figure out the logistics of an unusual vote Friday that Democrats are insisting take place but most Republicans wish had happened earlier in the week so they could be gone for their July Fourth recess.
The vote is on a Democrat-authored amendment to require President Donald Trump get congressional approval before carrying out military action against Iran. Democrats pressed GOP leaders to schedule the vote Friday so the Democratic senators running for the White House could attend Thursday night's presidential debate in Miami and then return to Washington for the vote.
In another procedural twist, senators agreed that if the measure were to pass it would be applied retroactively to the National Defense Authorization Act, which was approved by the Senate Thursday.

Why are they caving to the Dems?
Means nothing...zero. Trump can take military action for ninety days without any congressional approval...period!!!
They couldn’t scramble to prevent Obama from giving Iran billions and entering a fake treaty with them, but they can scramble for this?
A majority of the American people do not want to have a war with Iran with the resultant deaths, physical & psychological maimings, debt, $100 oil, economic recession, etc.
I sure as hell don’t.
I just love how the Congress/Senate arbitrarily plays such idiotic and US-risking games.
I am NOT a supporter of unlimited war-making power for ANY POTUS, but I am also NOT for tying the hands of the POTUS. Circumstances sometimes are fluid and/or immediate with no time to assemble that do-nothing body of fecal matter to get “permission” to protect the US and her assets.
Who’s in charge *-?
Abbott & Costello Part XXX
PT is not going to take action unless we are attacked, and if he does take action i will be over very quickly.
I want us to destroy Iran’s nuke and ICBM develop programs.
Find out and there is your answer.
You are absolutely correct!
I think I heard they do NOT have 60 votes. Not positive.
There will be no war unless Iran starts it. I go by the old jacksonian foriegn policy, you leave me alone, i leave you alone, but if you attack me, i wipe you off the face of the earth.
Is Obama using some of the Info he collected over 8 years ?
You can bet mitt is in.
So why doesnt McConnell tell the Democrats to pound sand? What a pushover.
All correct, and you know what else?
Outside the Media-Military-Punditry class, no one else does either. In Trump Country, very few people give much of a s#it what happens in Iran, short of them getting a nuke. Same goes for the rest of the world that isn’t a direct threat because if someone does become a threat, they know we have the military power and Presidential leadership to knock them flat.
Trump’s political instincts are always dead-on. At least 90% of the country is with him on not wanting war or military action against Iran.
Next time, just pack our drones with bacon.
Yeah, sounds unconstitutional.
The GOP is useless
doesn’t matter, he’ll just have to veto it anyway
How about a declaration of war. Isn’t Congress supposed to have something to do with that thing?

the War Powers Act, which was passed in the wake of the Vietnam War in an effort to reign in Presidential war power, but which actually enhances that power greatly and gives the President the ability to commit U.S. military forces without seeking Congressional approval under a wide variety of circumstances.
As summarized by Wikipedia, the Act requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30 day withdrawal period, without an authorization of the use of military force or a declaration of war.
