Starting July 1, the nation's capital will officially be implementing arguably Draconian fines on restaurants and bar owners as D.C.'s government will be sending out the plastic Gestapo in full force to ensure that only biodegradable straws are handed out to customers. If you get caught handing out the newly ordained contraband so that your patrons can enjoy a vodka soda or a lemonade with ease, you better be ready to pay up some cold hard cash since you are contributing to pollution according to backers of the law.
Dcist.com reports that "starting on July 1, businesses can be fined $100 to $800 (or more) for failing to comply with the D.C. Department of Energy and Environment’s ban on plastic straws."

This is the kind of thing that destroys one’s confidence in the law. It is a law that criminalizes a non-crime.
The government loves to do this. You say “he” to a man. Your cat goes out for a walk on your grass. You’re arrested and you have a criminal record.
That could be more useful than the paper. I just remember the colorful paper straws that could be made.
No offense intended, but I only use one hand to drink. Am I missing something?
I’m going to start a cartel to sell these where they’re criminalized. I guess that would make me a plastic straw lord.
What about plastic drink cups, lids and coffee stirrers (you know, tiny plastic straws)? What about plastic forks? What about plastic water bottles?
Straw laws shall be enforced but we can’t defend our borders and must not detain illegals.

Sounds like a job for a homeless person. But then that would be work and it could be a problem for some people.
So if I walk into a restaurant I don’t like, I bring a few extra plastic straws and call the straw police. That’ll fix em!
