Oregon GOP Senators Defiant After Governor Threatens Arrests
Washington Free Beacon ^ | 06/24/19

Posted on 06/24/2019 9:48:58 AM PDT by Liberty7732

Oregon Senate minority leader Herman Baertschiger said his caucus remains defiant in its efforts to stall proposed cap-and-trade legislation.

"My caucus and I continue to stand firm and remain out of the state," he said, criticizing media reports that claimed Republican senators, who fled the capitol to avoid voting on the bill, have been coordinating with militia groups.

"The peaceful rallies on the steps this weekend were done by Oregonians who will be directly impacted by the gas and emissions tax or House Bill 2020. Democrats were reactionary to rumors and lacked the courage to face these Oregonians by closing the Capitol building on Saturday when it was scheduled to be open," Baertschiger said in a Sunday evening statement.

Liberal journalists latched on to a jocular tweet from the state Republican Party's official Twitter account as evidence of support from right-wing militia groups. The featured photo was of a rally earlier in the week featuring truck drivers and loggers protesting the legislation.

Didn’t some ‘rat state senators (I forget which state, and for what bill) do exactly this same thing a few years ago? Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander.

Bahahaha.

Game over. For now, at least.

The state’s legislative session is scheduled to conclude at the end of the week. If Republicans don’t return to the capitol before then, any outstanding legislation working its way through the chamber would become void, meaning legislators would have to call a special session this summer to deal with it.

Better watch it. Oregon executive branch commands the OSP who is Padewan to the FBI Hostage Rescue Team. If they aren’t careful the gov might order them to be ambushed in the woods and shot dead in a snowy ditch.

That’s how Oregon works, you know.

I remember that too.

I didn’t like it then either.
They should do their jobs.

In Wisconsin Democrats did this a few years ago.

Just in general, if Democrats do something, it’s ok and they have some high moral purpose for doing so. If Republicans do the same thing, they are subverting our country and it’s the end of the world as we know it .

yes they certainly did, but it’s really not the way to go about things. I’d be fired if I walked out on a job just because I didn’t want to do it!

Wisconsin Dems did it in 2011 when Governor Walker’s Act 10 came up for a vote.

Cant find it now, but I read an article over the weekend saying Kate Brown supported this type of action in 2001 when she was leading the states democrat party when they had a republican governor

RE ““SEND BACHELORS...AND COME HEAVILY ARMED”:

Love it...

Dems hate it when their own tactics are used against them.

Do either of you understand what this is about?
It has nothing to do with “not wanting to do a job.”
The Rs do not have enough seats to defeat the bill in a vote. But they DO have enough seats to prevent a quorum thereby PREVENTING the vote.
Once the session ends in a week or so, the bill dies.

So YES, they ARE doing their job.

This essentially is a conflict between the big city liberals (e.g.Portland area) who have the plurality and the rest of the state, who are the farmers, loggers and working people trying to save their jobs and industry.

If you ever wonder what the US will become with out the Electoral College where only national popular vote rules, look no farther than Western states like Oregon and Washington. A small geographic urban area, that is densly populated, runs rough-shod over the rest of the state.

Thank you both for speaking up. Pretty much all of rural Oregon stands with the “Oregon 11”.

It is beyond wonderful to see our Republican Oregon Senators, and all the rural people of Oregon, finally standing united, and peaceful. Small ground is being gained here.

You’ve all been bitching about Oregon people not doing what needs to be done. Well here we are folks. We could sure use you all standing with us. Proud of our people!

Reading helps towards understanding :)

Well, Oregon rural people, this sounds like a good idea. If Wisconsin and Oregon can do it, why not in Minnesota? Sick and tired of metro Twin Cities politicians pushing idiotic laws upon the rest of us.

Correct. Oregon is in massive trouble. The Democrats hold a supermajority for the first time... ever I believe. Our corrupt vote by mail system makes it virtually impossible to change hearts and minds or win on a vote because somehow tons of democrats always vote even on issues that you cant believe would bring them out in real numbers. I hate that a walkout is all they can do, but other than this method right now the dems can force every single piece of legislation through without any check or balance. Republicans in general and conservatives in specific have virtually no representation in Oregon this session. We need a miracle here. Pray for one please.
