I have mixed thoughts on what US interests are.
On one hand I think our ONLY interest is to prevent Iran from developing a nuke.
On the other, I am still saddled with the philosophy that the US Navy is the only force in the world capable of keeping the Gulf open to the free flow of oil, so desperately needed by the rest of Western Civilization.
How many decades more must we carry the burden of preserving Western Civilization alone?
Is now a good time to let other Western nations feel the pain of their abject irresponsibility? Maybe.
It does seem that there are many on this thread that can’t resist the call to war. Herman Goering knew that.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.
Hermann Goering (as told to Gustav Gilbert during the Nuremberg trials).
Now I don’t think that Trump really wants war, but I doubt he is in full control of the situation.
I feel much the same way, but admit that I still feel we owe them big time for their actions in late 1979. They have never paid that debt in full.
I guess I feel the same way about the USS Pueblo and North Korea. I still feel like we owe them payback.
But all in all, I am not advocating for military action on that basis. If it ever does happen, I will view it as a positive side effect.
Well, with the strait closed, we would have a captive market for our oil&gas, to sell to civilized friends....
