This guy ought to sue them all for slander and false accusations. I’m embarrassed for our nation the such low IQ people are “representives of the people”.
He is completely right. In some (all?) states there is only an income test, not an asset test. We qualified this way a for few years and if I’d known sooner it would have been a few years more. I suspect Social Security counts as income, in which case getting EBT could be a reason to delay payments.
BUT...then in other cases, if you get a job, even a small, part-time income, they will drop ALL ASSISTANCE, IMMEDIATELY, which forces you to try to make ends meet while you wait for your first paycheck, and even though this little income will not pay ALL of your bills, you have to go through the process of reapplying (taking time/days off of your new job) to beg for the difference that you will get, even AFTER the part-time pay kicks in!
They make it VERY DIFFICULT to get off or even WANT to get off of assistance! I know, I watched my sister-in-law go through the very crap I listed above. Ever nickle pay raise, they would turn off her assistance and she would have to start all over on getting those back.
Thank God and perseverance she finally got completely away from that crap!
This doesn’t stop with food stamps. Section 8 housing assistance is also based only on income, not assets. I work at a company that manages a subsidized housing highrise and you wouldn’t believe all the luxury cars parked in the garage there. Those “low income” tenants drive better cars than most fully employed people.
Now, that’s just the legal asset loophole. On top of that, most of them have jobs that pay cash they don’t have to report, or rent out rooms to relatives who pay them cash, etc. The drug dealers are the easiest ones to catch, but catching all the other scams the more “law abiding” welfare junkies are up to is a full time job for the building manager.
I know of a young man here, who was in somewhat dire straits. He applied for, and received the Food Share and medicaid easily. However, they were quite strict in what he needed to provide in order to qualify. They also require you to let them know when circumstances change. I was helping him with all of this. He found a job and contacted them immediately. He was removed on the next processing date.
Here, in Wisconsin, maybe there is not the push to keep them on the rolls?
