This week’s big leak about a major Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation was orchestrated by acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan in an effort to sabotage the raids before they were scheduled to take place, according to three current and two former senior administration officials.
In a move he said was to placate Democrats, President Trump announced on Saturday that the nationwide immigration enforcement operation planned to start Sunday — aimed at migrant families who illegally remain in the country despite being denied asylum — was called off to give lawmakers two weeks to work on a plan to fix legal “loopholes” he said have enticed migrants to come to the U.S.
However, all five officials who spoke with the Washington Examiner confirmed McAleenan’s decision to go rogue and stymie the operation was what prompted the White House to call off the 10-city operation.
The planned raids in cities such as Los Angeles, Miami and Houston, were first reported by the Washington Post on Friday. The sources said only a small number of people in the White House, ICE, and DHS were even aware of the plan’s details, including which cities, the date and time, and who would be targeted.
Two officials said the acting secretary, who was promoted internally in April, had fought for months during closed-door discussions with White House officials, the former acting ICE Director Ronald Vitiello, and the new acting ICE Director Mark Morgan against the plan, which they noted was similar to one the Obama administration carried out in 2015.

Why would Trump waste his time giving Congress 2 weeks to fix loopholes when they have done nothing but drag their feet for years? Does he really expect anything to get done?
Yesterday I felt this is part of the presidents strategy. By announcing these cities he would give the people a heads up so they could leave I was wrong. If the story is true this person has to be fired ASAP. McAleenan get out u made the President look like an incompetent .
If this is not open rebellion and/or sedition, I don’t know what it!
Shutter the agency, reassign all employees to various midwestern small and not so small towns, like Butte, Montana, Fremont, Nebraska, Colby, Kansas, Tipton, Missouri, El Reno, Oklahoma, and we will never, ever hear from those worthless “employees” again, ever!

...and is Trump expecting Congress to do anything but acknowledge and give amnesty to the illegals already here? Trump won’t close the border, he’s deporting less than even Obama, and he thinks Congress that hasn’t done anything but complain will do something that might be construed as helping him?

And Trump is still naming to key positions in his administration those who are actively working to undermine him and his administration. His biggest weakness as president.

Thomas Homan, former ICE Acting Director, was reported here to have denounced current DHS leadership as being deep state and working directly to stop Trump from stopping the invasion. Homan was also speculated as being the new “Immigration Czar”, but has said he is not interested without significant structural changes.
"Current and former officials within the administration who spoke to the Washington Examiner and BuzzFeed are accusing McAleenan of ruining the Sunday operation by either personally releasing details of the plan or by having people in his staff do it for him.
“I know he has not approved of this operation for months,” one source familiar with the matter said to the Washington Examiner. “The president wouldn’t leak that. ICE wouldn’t leak that. There’s only a few people involved in these discussions. … The only one who could have shared the details of those operations were [McAleenan].
Revealing details of the deportation raids, such as dates and locations, put ICE agents at risk, the sources pointed out."
“Leaking the locations and details to stop the operation from happening not only harmed operational integrity, but it put the safety and well-being of his own officers in jeopardy,” one administration official said to BuzzFeed. “The ICE mission is enforcing the nation’s laws and ensuring those who are unlawfully present in the country are removed if ordered by a judge; this will leave an unerasable mark on his tenure.”

There are roughly 1 million illegal immigrants in the USA with a Final Order of Removal.
Why did Trump needed a secret high level plan to arrest 2,000 families in ten cities?
Trump should have been arresting 1,000 illegal families every week since January 2017 - no secret plan required!
McAleenan worked for Obama for six years.
Trump promoted him.
Tom Homan, Trump's choice for “Immigration Czar,” also worked for Obama in a senior executive slot for three years.
Trump promoted Homan - twice - before offering him the Czar job.
I propose that Trump’s negotiating position should be that deportation will continue (and accelerate) until Congress passes an immigration and border security bill which is consistent with Trump’s 2016 campaign promises.
