WASHINGTON — The Yad Vashem museum in Israel suggested that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez needed a history lesson after the freshman Democrat said migrants at the southern US border were being housed in “concentration camps.”
“Concentration camps assured a slave labor supply to help in the Nazi war effort, even as the brutality of life inside the camps helped assure the ultimate goal of ‘extermination through labor,’” the Israeli museum, billed as a world center for Holocaust research, tweeted Wednesday at the New York Democrat. “Learn about concentration camps,” the tweet also said, as it linked to the museum’s web page on labor and concentration camps.
Ocasio-Cortez initially compared border facilities to Nazi-era concentration camps during an Instagram live session from her DC apartment Monday night.
She has stood by her comments since, tweeting Wednesday morning, “The US ran concentration camps before, when we rounded up Japanese people during WWII. It is such a shameful history that we largely ignore it.”
She’s been criticized by Republicans like Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the top GOP woman in the House, as well as Jewish scholars, for diminishing the horrors of the Holocaust.
“Such ignorant comparisons trivialize the Holocaust and thereby undermine the lessons of history we must learn,” Abe Foxman, director of the Center for the Study of Antisemitism at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, told Jewish Insider.

I read that only 14% of the people in her district would vote for her again. Good for them! One mistake is enough.
I can’t believe the UN isn’t going after all these countries that are forcing their people to walk thousands of miles, UPHILL, to risk their lives crossing the border and then climbing fences to break into America’s “concentration camps”. Aren’t those countries committing “war crimes”? Those countries are a disgrace.

Good point. These are forced labor marches. Actually, Mexico was allowing forced labor marches across their land. The force driving this of course are the gangs in Central America that were nurtured by the CIA and the cartels in Mexico who were armed by Obama and Bush.
Yes her comments are incorrect and inappropriate.
That being said it’s always good to be reminded of concentration camps and death by government. Although less ghastly and costly in terms of human lives and suffering, Americans of Japanese did suffer internment in camps, and Native Americans faced confinement and abuse in reservations.
But criticism of AOC should not seduce us into thinking that concentration camps and Democide couldn’t happen here. In fact, AOC’s comments should give us pause; we are liberty every day with the unchecked and continue expansion of the federal government and its police state apparatus.
We are not an exceptional people. If there weren’t some restraint on the federal government via what remains of the Constitution, and under certain circumstances, we could have the American version of a Nazi Germany, Mao’s China, or Stalin’s Russia.
Well, I am glad that at least SOME Jews are upset.

I don’t recall people in concentration camps being able to go home whenever they wanted to like those illegals in our detention camps can.
In fact, I wish they would.
Japanese and Native Americans were not starved, used for slave labor, and killed by the millions. Conflating them with Nazi concentration camps is dishonest and wrong.
The AOC idiotic remarks are always timed to take attention away from The President and GOP. Notice that her Concentration Camp remarks were within days of President Trumps campaign rally? Look at all of the attention AOC is able to drain away from a very successful campaign event! This is a well planned attack - not just off the wall comments by a nit wit.
