NOONAN:My Sister, My Uncle and Trump
WSJ ^ | June 21, 2019 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 06/21/2019 5:52:29 AM PDT by RevelationDavid

Off the premise of "keep your friends close and your enemies closer"… Here is Peggy Noonan at her worst… Full of intellectual snobbery and seething hatred towards Pres. Trump....she is such a joke.

""It was four years ago this week, June 16, 2015, and a great professional gift was given me. I had just watched Donald Trump’s announcement speech and was pondering its impact. This guy isn’t going to be president; we’ve been reading about his tabloid antics for 30 years. But he’ll have some impact, some support. Who? How much?

At this point my phone rang. It was my elder sister Cookie, formerly of Staten Island, N.Y., now living down South, a person who’s lived a hard life and gotten through it with a spirit she does not fully see or credit. She’s not particularly political, not at all partisan.

She didn’t even say hello. She just said, “I loooooove him.”

I was startled. Who?

“Donald Trump. Did you see it?” She’d watched the announcement live. “He’s going to win.”

Cookie had voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and told me he would win, so I knew I was hearing something....""

Many of us Cruz supporters thought that Trump was portraying himself to be being far more conservative than he actually was or would be. After all he was a Democrat earlier and had taken somewhat liberal positions on certain issues some years before. I believe Cruz was also had that suspicion.

Regardless, when Trump was nominated I crossed my fingers and readily voted for him hoping for the best.

I am ecstatic to admit my concerns were completely unfounded and my suspicions dead wrong as he has been more conservative governing than he even made himself out to be and more effective than I could have possibly hoped.

I believe there were quite a few folks like myself including Cruz who have been convinced that Trump calls em as he sees em and most definately is the real deal.

Soooo thankful it’s behind a paywall and that I’m lazy..! Didn’t read any further than you citation, didn’t try to get around paywall: I remember when I actually liked her. I remember when she wrote for Ronald Reagan. Wow, what a strange miracle. Now I hate her GD guts. I hate her almost as much as George Will, who also isn’t conservative.

_________

God, I actually agree with each sentence there.

She has not grown with the times. I wonder if she still gets sloshed every day around noon with her old lunch friends.

President Trump sure has exposed a lot of phonies. Makes you wonder how much of this stuff is staged.

America has been the proverbial boiling frog in the uniparties propganda agi-prop pot - 2016 something crazy happened, Mr. Trump got the frog to jump out of the water.

“I had just watched Donald Trump’s announcement speech and was pondering its impact. “

I don’t think Peggy can “ponder” much beyond her coffee cup.

“At the start of the 2016 campaign, I supported Cruz.”

I did too along with Ben Carson. But then when Trump had a rally scheduled in Chicago and antifa mobs caused it’s cancellation, Cruz joined democrats in blaming Trump because of his “divisiveness”. I immediately switched to Trump because I knew we needed a knife fighter to deal with these scum. Carson was too nice an easy going guy. Never looked back on that easy call.

It’s inspirational to watch Trumps 2015 speech:

The "nice" Republicans Bush I and Bush II, with whom Noonan was closely identified, bought us three wars, one of which went pretty well, the other two of which were ill-advised and are still dragging on - via irregulars and surrogates - after 15 years.

Meanwhile, the brash and "unstable" Trump has kept our military action relatively restrained despite constant pressure from the "smart-people."

Full of intellectual snobbery

A disorder frequently contracted by rubbing elbows with one's betters. Peculiarly, it can be more acute when the contact is more superficial.

The part I find astounding is that people like Noonan and the other NeverTrumpers don't recognize the nightmare that would have been a Hillary or Jeb presidency. Our country nearly went over the cliff during the eight years of the Pretender and the final nail in the coffin would have been anyone other than Trump.

He has pulled us back from the brink, restored our power and confidence and our wallets.

Any normal, adult person should have seen long before now how effective Donald Trump has been for our country - and acknowledged it. People who just double down and stay in their rut are on the downward slide and we can't help them.

I think when Reagan was gone, and the Rats & Rino’s took over, assuming that conservatism died when GHWB became POTUS, Noonan crossed the aisle for good, mentally. When Trump won, it wrecked her lovely plans. Now she’s just another Rat loser. JMHO.

Neither do I. I didn't encounter a paywall. I read the entire article with no problem.

But it didn't make her come across any better than the thumbnail describes. Her time has come and gone. She's lost it.

All that oozing condescension about your “boob” relatives, including ultimately that it is her greater study of history that leads her to the correct view, while they are stunted by less fancy educations.

Peggy Noonan always tries to be so eloquent and lofty. Talks above her audience. Trying to make herself sound important and relevant. To the point of not being understandable most of the time.

She reminds me of the bumper sticker I've seen, that says, "Instead of trying to save the world, try using your turn signal for a change."

She comes across as an elite Never Trumper because her cocktail party friends wouldn't approve if they knew she liked Trump.

So, instead, she denigrates her sister and uncle to make them the bad guys because they are all in for Trump. She'll throw them under the bus before she'd lose her invites to the snobby DC in-crowd parties.

Noonan's time in the limelight has come and gone. She is someone who did well at one point but has since slipped into the Swamp and become just another one of its slimy creatures. Like George Will.
