As we ramp up for the elections of 2020, we should take a moment to reflect on elections past. My personal experiences in the 2018 midterm election opened my eyes to the reality of the hyperpartisanship that currently grips our nation. I was the Democratic nominee for Tennessees First Congressional district -- a region characterized both by its complex mix of suburban and rural geography (more on that later) and by its seemingly unflinching support for the Republican party (no non-Republican candidate has held the seat since 1881).
What I learned during my run was that, unfortunately, the leadership of todays political parties are all too willing to undermine candidates who lack what they see as the required ideological purity. The Democratic party in particular has inculcated the premise of a Red State-Blue State dynamic and has adopted the position that much of rural America is a lost cause. I disagree, fundamentally, with this position. I know that the voters of the Tennessee First, and many other districts like it, are complicated and diverse and deserve representation that is truly reflective of their will. Regions like ours represent opportunities for growth and dialog.
Recent polling has shown that the majority of Democrats want a more moderate party. I believe that moderate candidates represent a better fit for much of America. I know that moderates can win elections that more aggressive and ideologically pure Democratic candidates would undoubtedly lose. When Democrats forsake regions like East Tennessee, they abandon all hope of ever seeing a return to a Senate majority; states with large rural populations elect more senators than urban ones -- thats a simple demographic fact. In a mere twenty years, two-thirds of our senators will be chosen by less than one-third of the population.

America has never been a nation of extremes and the Marxists Democrats will learn that to their despair and our joy.

I always thought ‘moderate America’ was Liberal

End of reading.

This is a great point, and once the Dems realize this, what will they do? Moderate their stances? NO
They will try to change the “laws” to end the way we elect Senators. Just like them trying to destroy the Electoral College.
Democrats have learned that they control the vote count now and into the future. All they need is control the system in the major cities of every state to have an EC as well as a Popular Vote blowout. They experimented with it in 2016 and 18 and saw that there is no penalty or even serious complaint when they just-next-to-overtly announce vote overcounts, more votes than there are voters. It will be Whole Hogg in 2020.
One of the thinnest books on the shelf is
“Accomplishments of Moderate Politicians.”
Actually this hyperpartisanship is nothing new. Watergate and Nixon impeachment. Reagan and Ketchup is a vegetable. Bork. Thomas. The Clinton years. Chimpy Bushitler. They were real happy with a democrat with no experience for 8 years so we didn’t hear a lot about it except the Tea Party people are crazy. Now Donald Trump is a long list of despicable nouns and adjectives. So, no, it is nothing new. Same product, different packaging.
Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr settled their differences in a very moderate fashion. If only we still allowed such delicate methods.
All Democratic leadership is far left. They are dragging their supporters towards far left positions. There will be few liberal moderates left in America. The middle ground vacuum is being filled by moderates who are switching parties from Democrat to Republican. Landslide for Trump in 2020?
They hate the Senate just as much, maybe more, than the EC. It’s just that they’ll have to get rid of the EC first?
To the Left, moderates are referred to as the “Bourgeoisie.”
Actually, when polled correctly w/o leading questions. Americans are very conservative.
I might agree, if America were not being continuously flooded with extreme non-Americans.
Authentic Americans, yes, not illegal aliens.
A moderate is someone who snipes at the backs of the people fighting the war on their own behalf.
The Neo-Cons, RINOs, Never-Trumpers. Those are all moderates. Just ask ‘em. They’ll tell you.
Non assimilating extreme non Americans.
