No presidential incumbent has lost reelection since George H.W. Bush in 1992, when Democrat Bill Clinton won comfortably in the electoral college, 370-168, despite only winning 43 percent of the popular vote. Bush finished with 38 percent of the vote, while independent Ross Perot took 19 percent of the vote. And although Perot was correct about many things, he was incorrect about electing Clinton - of course he knew what he was doing. Imagine a world where Bill & Hillary were defeated in '92. Yup, I'll say it. I would have preferred 4 more years of big spending, dark state Papa Bush to the start of the Clinton dynasty.

The way I see it, there wasn’t a dime’s worth of difference between Bush and Clinton, just two different sides of the same coin.

Since Herbert Hoover lost to FDR in 1932 in the depths of the Great Depression, only three incumbent Presidents have been defeated for re-election: Ford in 1976 (narrowly--despite the anger over his pardon of Nixon), Carter in 1980 (for manifest incompetence), and Bush in 1992 (thanks to Perot and to breaking his "read my lips" promise).
Whoever the Democrat nominee is, it will have to be someone who supports reparations, open borders, late term abortions, and repealing the tax cuts. I think Trump will be able to use those issues to his advantage.

Thanks for that reminder — that Bill Clinton LOST the POPULAR VOTE in ‘92!
Clinton 43%
Bush I 38% + Perot 19% = 57% pop vote.
That’s a great little factoid to throw at the “abolish the electoral college” crowd! I’m gonna use it!!
