A death threat was sent to Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker (pictured), police confirmed on Wednesday, just weeks after a German politician was murdered in what authorities believe was a "right-wing extremist" attack.
Police in the western German city told the mass-circulation Bild newspaper that the threatening note is believed to have been sent by someone active in the right-wing extremist scene.
It is not yet clear whether the threats are connected to the shooting of Kassel regional president Walter Lübcke, who was killed in early June in what appeared to be an execution-style assassination.
While campaigning in 2015, Reker suffered serious injuries when she was stabbed by a right-wing extremist wielding a hunting knife. The attacker said he targeted Reker because of her pro-refugee stance.

Whoever made the threat was smart enough not to use an electronic device.
Today there is little chance of being anonymous if you use electronic communication.

Demographically, it's a little hard to understand that kind of emotion on the Political Right.
Germany is 80% Germans + 12% other Europeans.
If we had those kinds of numbers in the USA, the Republican Party would control every level of government, from national to municipal!
I'm not sure what you mean by your comment. I'm guessing that we (U.S) are 85% American (citizens) and 15% Other (illegals, work-visas etc).
The sad fact is that the U.S., like Germany is filled with citizens who vote and support liberal positions. These people are called democrats.

Apparently, the extreme German Right has become violent because of immigration and refugee policies.
I was contrasting that with the USA.
Germany is 92% white Europeans. The idea of becoming violent about 8% immigrants seems almost absurd to an American.
Also, most German “Conservatives” are center-left by American standards.
The USA is now less than 60% white Europeans, but a solid majority of us are center-right on every issue.
I was fantasizing out loud what the USA would be like politically if we were 92% European, too.
