Pop superstar Taylor Swift is doubling down on her new social justice warrior persona with the release of her latest music video, a full-blown LGBT anthem that depicts those who hold a Christian view of homosexuality and a bilogical view of sex as angry, dim-witted rednecks.
NBC News describes the video for You Need to Calm Down as a vibrantly colored, surreal trek through a pastel-colored trailer park, with anti-LGBT protesters being faced down or ignored by the flamboyantly dressed stars that culminates with [sic] a massive foot fight. Celebrity guests include Katy Perry, Ellen Degeneres, Ryan Reynolds, and Laverne Cox.
The video includes caricatures of anti-LGBT protesters as screaming rednecks with cartoonish hair and tattered clothes, bearing signs such as homosexuality is sin and a misspelled get a brain morans.
You are somebody that we dont know, but you are coming at my friends like a missile, Swift sings. Why are you mad? When you could be GLAAD? (The official lyrics video spells the word glad with two As, a reference to the LGBT activist group.) The lyrics also tell the straw-man version of Swifts foes that they would rather be in the dark ages and need to control your urges to scream about all the people you hate, cause shade never made anybody less gay.
The video ends with text exhorting viewers: Lets show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally. Please sign my petition for Senate support of the Equality Act on change.org.
The so-called Equality Act would add sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity to federal non-discrimination categories in public accommodations, expand the definition of public accomodations to include recreation, shopping, online retailers, health care services, and other kinds of establishments, and force anyone employing 15 or more people to recognize their claimed gender identity and mandate transgender access to opposite-sex restrooms, locker rooms, and dressing rooms.
Taylor Swift is one of the worlds biggest pop stars. The fact that she continues to use her platform and music to support the LGBTQ community and the Equality Act is a true sign of being an ally, GLAAD director of talent engagement Anthony Ramos said. You Need to Calm Down is the perfect Pride anthem, and were thrilled to see Taylor standing with the LGBTQ community to promote inclusivity, equality, and acceptance this Pride month.
For years, liberals attacked Swift for her relative silence on political and cultural causes. She gave in to the pressure last year, first by endorsing Tennessees former Democrat governor Phil Bredesen in his failed Senate race against Republican Marsha Blackburn. In April, the country-turned-pop star donated $113,000 to the left-wing Tennessee Equality Project (TEP) to combat a series of bills before the Tennessee legislature to protect private entities religious and conscience rights and reject state recognition of same-sex marriage. Swift and TEP dubbed the legislation a Slate of Hate.
And Sarah Vaughn. I was driving home late one night and picked up CFZM in Toronto on the AM and there was that voice coming through the speakers. Wow!
It’s the same with rock music. They’ll be playing The Beatles a hundred years from now, but no one will care about anything that was produced after 1980.
There is something about being an originator.

Its been rumored for quite a while that shes closeted.
With as many ex-boyfriends as she has? It’s possible. She seems to write a new album after every break-up.
When I saw the white Christian protesters in her video, the first thing I thought about was California Proposition 8.
In 2008, California voted 52%-47% to outlaw gay marriage, which briefly shocked the state, and to some extent shocked the country.
White California voters overwhelmingly supported gay marriage.
However, Black and Hispanic California voters overwhelmingly rejected gay marriage!
National news coverage of the Prop 8 election went completely SILENT about 24 hours after the votes were counted!
There was a time when a fading music star had to die of a drug overdose in his or her 20s to revive their careers.
Isn’t that the infamous ‘27’ club?
Taylor, your onco-gynecologist called. She wanted to confirm that you are a malignant female body part, you tnuc!
I won’t see or listen to this on purpose. Life is too short, and there is too much good music available, to listen to crapola.
What normal person obsesses about homosexuality and other sexual weirdness, anyway? If the issue were not in my face continually through the media, I could go a long, long time —probably years —without it ever crossing my mind.
Taylor Swift hasn't been a country artist since 2012.
Never heard of her.
Quite the opposite. She'll be 30 this year. Her biggest-earning years are behind her. She'll never again release another 1989. Her days as the reigning queen of the entertainment world are over. She became rich and famous staying out of the political fray. Now she can afford to jump on the bandwagon.
“but no one will care about anything that was produced after 1980”
I think you’re correct.
Emerson said that the world awaits the arrival of the next poet (composer, whatever).
Taylor...say “Hello” to the Dixie Chicks when you catch up with’em.
It would appear that some ‘entertainers’ have ‘contractual beards’ to fool the masses. Male and female ‘entertainers’ do this. Some of them even enter into “lavender marriages’.
Go figure.
Even Elton John married a woman at one time.
And guys (it was always guys, all the most proficient and creative rock instrumentalists were men, something about that male obsessiveness when they like something, no female teenager spends their every waking hour practicing guitar, etc, the way the best male players did) back then had the discipline, the lack of distraction, whatever it was, to practice obsessively and practically eat drink and sleep their instruments, plus the creativity to move the music along. (I hate when people bring up Nancy Wilson, she was good, but she couldnt touch the best male guitar players, and anyway its my understanding that Roger Fisher came up with the iconic riffs and solos in the classic Heart songs.)
Just like Peter Frampton was underrated as a guitar player because of his teen idol image, he was and is a great guitarist, playing jazz stylings in a sea of blues scales in rock.
He did indeed.
The question now is ‘how long before swift officially exits the closet or claimes ‘bisexual’ status’?
Having worked in So Calif for over 29 years & in a major Hollywood Studio for over 4 years, I have had my share of contacts with the LBGT crowd.
I really don’t give a rat’s behind who they choose as a partner.
I AM sick & tired of having their sexual preferences & actions shoved into my face with an attitude that I MUST accept their choices. Celebrating with parades & behavior that is disgusting the the VERY LARGE majority of the population is not recruiting new members to your side. The Pride Parade in San Fran includes nudes & sex on parade-—literally!!!
Keep it to yourself & keep it in the bedroom.
Promoting such a life style is not something I should be told I must support. You have made your own choices. Leave me alone to make mine. You will never get my support.
You made the choice to live outside the norms of a Christian nation. Live with the results & SHUT UP.
Too bad Swift chose this path.
Little girls who live in Christian households buy alot of her music & other stuff.
Kiss that $$$$$ goodbye.
“Music fans are fickle.”
I don’t know...I’m not. If I like a group, I’m pretty much a lifelong fan, until they don’t choose to “shut-up and sing”. I’ll confess, I still have Dixie Chicks and James Taylor in the several thousand songs I have on my phone’s micro-sd card...but they no longer get airtime. (There’s NO Taylor Swift on that card!)
No it didnt demonize anyone, my point was that celebrities are notorious for jumping on virtue-signaling bandwagons, and jumping back off of them as soon as the cause becomes passé (which wont happen with the purple mafia cause, they have enough economic and social power to ensure that).
Just like George Harrisons Concert For Bangladesh wound up with almost none of the money going to the actual people in need in Bangladesh (but that wasnt really his fault, other than him not doing his homework, and Allen Klein stealing a good chunk, the record companies insisting on their share, and the UK and US governments refusing to recognize the event as charitable, therefore taxing what was left).
They never get past the "give the producer a blow job" test.
