In the months that he has served as President Trumps acting secretary of defense, Patrick Shanahan has worked to keep domestic violence incidents within his family private. His wife was arrested after punching him in the face, and his son was arrested after a separate incident in which he hit his mother with a baseball bat. Public disclosure of the nearly decade-old episodes would re-traumatize his young adult children, Shanahan said.
On Tuesday, Trump announced in a tweet that Shanahan would not be going through with the nomination process, which had been delayed by an unusually lengthy FBI background check, so that he can devote more time to his family.
Shanahan spoke publicly about the incidents in interviews with The Washington Post on Monday and Tuesday.
Bad things can happen to good families . . . and this is a tragedy, really, Shanahan said. Dredging up the episode publicly, he said, will ruin my sons life.
In November 2011, Shanahan rushed to defend his then 17-year-old son, William Shanahan, in the days after the teenager brutally beat his mother. The attack had left Shanahans ex-wife unconscious in a pool of blood, her skull fractured and with internal injuries that required surgery, according to court and police records.
Two weeks later, Shanahan sent his ex-wifes brother a memo arguing that his son had acted in self-defense.
Use of a baseball bat in self-defense will likely be viewed as an imbalance of force, Shanahan wrote. However, Wills mother harassed him for nearly three hours before the incident.
Details of the incidents have started to emerge in media reports about his nomination, including a USA Today report Tuesday about the punching incident in 2010.

Nope, I don’t see it as an error at all, at least not by the President. Should it have been uncovered by previous employers? Perhaps, although since Shanahan, himself, doesn’t seem to have been the perpetrator of domestic violence, I don’t see why it should impact his employment. It’s a tragedy for his family, and it’s doubly tragic that it should become political fodder. But to blame President Trump for not having known about it is just wrong. That’s why he has aides, a chief of staff, the FBI, and others who are responsible for vetting candidates for administration jobs, then advising the President accordingly.
My brother’s ex attacked him, then whined on Facebook “What to do when he hits you”. He said she fits borderline to a t.
I feel bad for Mr. Shanahan and thank him for his service.
I think borderline affects many many women to varying degrees
Its not quite mental illness and it dovetails nicely with #metoo and victimhood and all the culture rot that has afflicted womanhood in the wake of feminism going back decades in this new world we inhabit of convenience and false security whereby for the first time in recorded history Not even a sneeze in time chronologically ...women actually DO NOT NEED men to survive in a bloody rapist and plunderer and marauder filled world where existential threats are real and not rhetoric
A woman with borderline personality disorder likely has no idea she has it and blames the world and is almost certain not to seek treatment
Little medicine helps except for anxiety and mood...
SSRIs are simply not as effective
Most women like this drink....self medicate
Nobody desires to be miserable....but its a fairly hopeless mental condition mostly since the woman will likely never know or self reflect over it
As she destroys everything in her wake relationship wise with manipulation and conniving far beyond literary stereotypes
No emotional availability and if its there its likely fake or temporary or for a purpose
My hunch is fear of abandonment is at the core of BPD women..
And trauma they will never ever explain from way back
So why does it only seem to afflict ravishing women...
Good question that one isnt it...
If you seek drop dead hot women with strong carnal appetites and lack of inhibitions as I usually did you run the risk of being involved with a woman with borderline personality disorder
She doesnt mean to hurt you and betray you and eventually detest and demonize you
But she will
Its a damn sad affair...
Its not like pathological mental illness like bipolar or schizophrenia or various paranoid or high intensity narcissistic disorders whereby the afflicted likely knows something is amiss and seeks help
No its much more insidious...
Depending on whos counting the prevalence rate amongst American women is from one in fifty to nearly one in twenty
(not) Funny how this seems to happen to GOPs:

RE: Borderline. You need to be VERRRYYYYYY careful who you get involved with.
Thank God your brother got out unscathed!!!!!!
Marriage counselors make it worse. Kids deserve to grow up with two parents that love each other, but if the parents at at each other’s throats, they are better off in two homes with less conflict. Proven.
Ive corresponded with her
Wonderful woman
