I was simply saying there are two genders, male and female. Next time, say that the two genders are XX and XY, and you can name them whatever you want.

The correct term is sex. There are two sexes, male and female. That's Biology 101 and it's genetic and the science really is settled on this.
Again we lose when we let others dictate the language. Whenever a leftist talks gender, immediately correct the discussion to use the term sex. The left has reinterpreted the word gender to mean "sexual expression", which is a scientifically meaningless categorization. That's the real battle line here.
