My Marine Step-Nephew served two full tours in Afghanistan as part of an Artillery Unit. He came back, finished College, met a nice Girl and got a great Job.
(Unfortunately he was killed in a Motorcycle Accident when a clueless Woman decided to make a left turn in front of him)
Being diagnosed with depression would disqualify him from most branches of service and/or jobs which have any serious responsibility over life. And he wants to be president in charge of the nuclear football?

I am throwing the BS flag here. Naval Officers don't drive much less "guard" anything. At least not 50 years ago when I served. Perhaps the new Navy is different, but I doubt it.

He was not a JAG officer. He was a Naval Reserve Intelligence Officer. He spent most of his 7-month tour of duty sitting safely on Bagram Air Base. There are Al Gore style photos of him conveniently outside of the wire so that he can have proof of combat service. In soldier vernacular he was a FOBbit. Slept in a warm bed every night, three hot meals a day, and constant internet connectivity.
He can still avail himself of mental health services from the VA. But I doubt he could pass the muster for getting any treatment.
