California Moves to Let Felons Serve on Juries
The Orange County Register ^ | June 13, 2019 | John Phillips

The state of California has made no secret that it wants to let as many people out of prison as possible.

From the early release of inmates through AB 109, to filling parole boards with felon friendly commissioners, to decriminalizing a litany of felonies and drug offenses with Props 47 and 57, Sacramento lawmakers are bending over backwards to dramatically reduce the state’s inmate population.

Despite all of these efforts, the number of inmates hasn’t dropped dramatically enough to satisfy the state’s ruling Democrats, so they’re kicking tires on a new approach — rigging the jury system so no one gets convicted in the first place.

This most recent push is Senate Bill 310, authored by state Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, and would allow Californians who have prior felony convictions to serve on juries.

In a press release promoting the proposal, Skinner wrote, “SB310 will help ensure that California juries represent a fair cross-section of our communities…People with felony records have the right to vote in California. There is no legitimate reason why they should be barred from serving on a jury.”

Currently, felons are prevented from serving on juries because of their obvious and inherent bias against prosecutors and law enforcement.

Perhaps this is the reason why Hillary carried California: "People with felony records have the right to vote in California."

Of course, this outrageous proposal came from Berkeley, California.

I wonder if they’ll dramatically reduce the number of Corrections Officers when they dramatically reduce the number of inmates?

How about letting defendants participate in the jury vote, too?

Where do the cops and prosecutors stand on this? I would hope they’re very unhappy about it. They catch’em and put’em away...the state let’s them go.

If you honestly believe that jurors in California who’ve served time won’t be more lenient towards accused criminals, I’ve got a bullet train to sell you.

The brief article is quite clever and well-written.

And, it succinctly summarizes the best arguments against letting felons on juries.

Don’t forget the free healthcare for illegals as well, paid for by “taxing people who are here legally for not purchasing health insurance”.....

How much more of this BS are Cali residents going to stand for?

The last time I did jury duty in CA they didn’t even require ID, just your summons. Anybody could have taken my place.

What I hear around this area, and we have had a lot of retired cops moving in from CA, is that they will simply not bother to arrest and let them go.

That is for the more minor crimes like petty theft, etc.

Soon, they will simply not bother with the more serious crimes and simply drive around in their squad cars and ignore the police radio.

Happened in Detroit Mich, and is happening in several places in CA. Like Oakland, San Fran, LA, Bakersfield, Sacratomato, etc.

Like Deeetoit, its going to be every man for himself. AND nobody is to have any means of self defense.

One niegbor here, moved in from Fresno, you wouldnt believe how paranoid that old man is. Everything is locked up. Bars on his windows on his buildings, chains on his spare tires with locks on them..

Understand that the label “felon” is now applied across a much broader spectrum as in days past. If you murdered or raped children you should lose all civic benefits . But this should not be applied across the board . Take into consideration that the majority of lawmakers in D.C. are felons but never prosecuted because they illegally exempt themselves. So please don’t paint all with such a broad brush. I am a felon because of a DMV error and was given 3 tickets for driving on a suspended liscense when all te while it was not ….To exspunge this off of my record is like pulling teeth...so please try not to judge from this over used word .

Q - Domestic Felons or Illegal Invader Felons?

A - There is no difference between the two in CA.

A jury of one’s peers: the peer group would include criminals who carried out a similar crime. Those peers would be better able to judge wheather or not the prosecuted person was telling the truth. Like You Know; been there, done that. Other peers would be those who were accused of the crime and were found to be not guilty. Verily I say, it is not just Florida Man who will be in the news. California Man will have his day. I just wish they still had the National Lampoon magazine. So very many stories yet to be published.

Good. I’m not exposing myself to typhus, as an LAPD cop just recently contracted downtown. I hope our stupid mayor gets it too.
