LONDON (AP) Hapless husbands and housework-burdened moms were being banished from British advertising, as a crackdown on harmful gender stereotypes came into force Friday. Under new rules, advertisements must not include gender stereotypes which are likely to cause harm or serious or widespread offense.
Examples include depictions of a man failing to change a diaper or a woman to park a car, or ads that suggest women are solely responsible for cooking and cleaning.
Complaints will be assessed by industry watchdog the Advertising Standards Authority. It doesnt have the power to impose fines, but British broadcasters are bound by the terms of their licenses to comply with its rulings.
The watchdog, which has previously banned ads for suggesting it was desirable for young women to be unhealthily thin, said it wont ban all stereotypes, such as women cleaning or men doing home-improvement jobs.
The authority said its aim is to remove those that are harmful, such as ads that contrast caring girls and daring boys, or mock men for carrying out stereotypically female tasks.

A few years ago a crime prevention advert featured a middle class black man acting like the potential victim of a white working class “chav” being a burglar.
Establishment scumbags have made contempt for white working class people, particularly men, the last form of acceptable bigotry. No wonder the Labour party has abandoned them, and why crimes against their daughters are ignored and covered up by the political elites in favour of their favoured demographics. Classism has nver gone away in Britain, and unlike racism, the progressive left has positively encouraged it.
The Brits used to have great advertising, but not anymore.
By the way, happy Father's Day...
The UK has had a full-scale war against free speech going on for the last decade or two.
If the UK manages to Brexit, the next thing it needs is to get itself a formal, written constitution that protects the citizenry from its government. ASAP.
Note to UK: Feel free to crib from ours.
But of course.
