U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)-Anti-Second Amendment activists in Florida are working to have a state Constitutional Amendment placed on the ballot for 2020. The Amendment would ban future sales of almost all semi-automatic rifles, some semi-automatic shotguns, and require registration of those currently owned.
The problem with having people who are proudly ignorant about firearms technology draft a referendum, is they know just enough to create supremely stupid and ineffective laws.
Here is the definition from the proposed state Constitutional amendment. From bawnfl.org:
1)Definitions–
a)Assault Weapons –For purposes of this subsection, any semiautomatic rifle or shotgun capable of holding more than ten (10) rounds of ammunition at once, either in a fixed or detachable magazine, or any other ammunition–feeding device. This subsection does not apply to handguns.
b)Semiautomatic –For purposes of this subsection, any weapon which fires a single projectile or a number of ball shots through a rifled or smooth bore for each single function of the trigger without further manual action required.c)Ammunition–feeding device –For purposes of this subsection, any magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device for a firearm.
Nearly all .22 semi-automatic rifles, qualify under this definition. .22 semi-automatic rifles, as a class, may be the most common rifles in the United States. They having been in production and popular since the 1914.
They have been produced by every major and many minor firearms manufacturers. There are tens of millions of them existing in the United States. Virtually all of them who use detachable magazines can accept magazines

At least in MA, but I’d surmise in most if not all states, ballot questions must be researched and approved by their Secretary of State and/or AG for Constitutionality.
As lieberal and progressive as MA is, and as anti-2A as it is, I don’t think a ballot question would be approved here. Although, our AG is an outright unabashed leftist.

What we need is “smart guns” that require an activation code to fire a shot. The activation code can be attained through email from local authorities once you notify them that a life threatening situation has occurred.
They need to ban bathtubs, while they are at it. Many people fall and injure themselves in tubs.

When you need a gun, you need one, you can’t wait and try to remember some code.
You don’t have to wait if you have a decoder ring!
And forty years ago, the anti-gun forces saw promise of banning handguns in FLA. “Rifles will not be affected!”
But that was forty years ago.
Here’s the benefit: while you’re waiting for your activation code, you’ll have time to psychoanalyze your assailant and tell him his violent tendencies were probably a result of Trump winning the election. Most likely that diffuse the situation without bloodshed.
According to Obama we can buy machine guns over the Internet....

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
If you are trying to reduce the number of mass murder by shooting, yes.
If you are trying to disarm the population, not necessarily.
Gradually making something illegal, over generations, has worked in some cultures, in some countries.
Hey liberals, an assault weapon is ANYTHING that could be used to injure someone, such as a car, gun, knife or a tree branch? Even a frozen pork chop could be used as a weapon!! Shall we ban baseball bats and lumber?
I believe all anti-gun nuts should be escorted to the border or to a plane taking them from this country so they can live the rest of their lives in some craphole country that doesn’t allow you to defend yourself from mortal enemies - like democrats and Muslims.
Naturally they will be given a one day passport so they can enter their favorite craphole but never return.
