The jury then heard additional evidence–including an email from Oberlin to its alumni criticizing the jury verdict–in a second phase, to determine whether the college should be held liable for punitive damages.

Here University Counsel reached a true pinnacle of stupidity and walked away smirking until the verdict came down like a million-pound space hammer. They may only be townies, my dear, but they just kicked your arrogant butt.

I’d ask the Gibson family how many million it would be worth to them to club the Oberlin dean and Donica Thomas Varner like baby Harp seals...

Journalists rarely give the county, court of jurisdiction, file number, or the causes of action so that you can actually find out what happened. Annoying.

The post is one of many, many posts from Legal Insurrection who have been covering this case in extraordinary depth. It's not meant to be a stand-alone article.

Go to the link and scroll down to "Legal Insurrection Prior Coverage". There are dozens of articles on this case.

Boring as it may seem, repeating basic facts is good reporting. I did contact the reporter who provided a pleading.

I guess I have been hiding under a rock, but what was this about? Always happy to see a nest of Commies punished, no matter what the cause.

From my understanding a black student was attempting to steal from the store, and when store employees tried to stop him and his buddies started to fight the employees. The campus BLM got involved and the student government and eventually college admin decreed the store to be racist and to stop supporting it.

The American Left is a different country today after a long evolution...America in the 21st century has become the America of the middle 19th century - two very different and hostile nations occupying the same territory.

There Will Be Blood!

They’re not appealing this for decades. They’ll make it look like it while secretly negotiating a lower verdict.

In this case, bad PR is not good PR as they start losing endowments because of jury awards and legal fees. Who knows, next year the college board of trustees can fire the College administration and settle on their own and perhaps change a shit college into a decent college.

I think they will just pay it and cut their losses.

I suspect ‘towns people’ are sick to death of the Oberlin pretending it’s 1963 and anyone “off campus” is living in the Jim Crow South...

Come to think of it - we’re all sick of that crap.

I guess the only fair option is to let blacks steal from Oberlin College then. As I understand it, Oberlin has lots of money. Surely they should share it with the “less fortunate”.
