Amanda Knox back in Italy for first time since acquittal

Amanda Knox has arrived in Italy for the first time since she was acquitted by an appeals court in October 2011 in the murder of her British roommate in the university town of Perugia.

Knox arrived at Milan's Linate airport on Thursday en route to the northern city of Modena, where she will participate Saturday in a panel discussion on wrongful convictions. She was escorted by plainclothes officers and kept her eyes downward as she exited the airport.

Knox's 2011 acquittal was just one step in a long judicial process of flip-flop decisions before she was definitively acquitted in 2015 by Italy's highest court. Europe's human rights court in January ordered Italy to pay Knox financial damages for failures to provide adequate legal and translation assistance during early questioning.

Foolish of her setting foot in Italy.

IMO, her story about the murder isn't believable so who knows if she was involved or not.

If she was NOT involved her story is really stupid.

I wouldn’t even eat spaghetti if I were her. Italy would literally be the last place I where I would set foot.

The prosecution’s story is so absurd that it’s an international disgrace.

Were I Amanda Knox, Italy would be #1 on my list of countries in which I would never set foot.

From what i have read about the Italian system, that is a trap.

And she is beyond stupid.

I wouldn’t even eat spaghetti if I were her.

But eating at Olive Garden is probably OK. It has nothing to do with Italy.

For what it’s worth, since the country now has a decent leader at the helm (translated: a right-wing Trump-like populist conservative), the last thing it wants to do is to piss off the United States. The prosecution for Knox was part of a rabid socialist government populated by Red Brigade members, so justice is taking a better turn.

So if any shenanigans occur, expect it to come from a prosecutor who still has Red Brigade communist beliefs and wants to upset the new government.

Foolish of her setting foot in Italy.

Agreed. Their system is based on Justinian jurisprudence, which is not rooted in innocent until proven guilty. A foolish risk.

Amanda Knox hasn’t been on the radar for some time now ... she’s doing this to get attention. We have a term here at FR (you know what it is) to describe this type of person.

I would say you need to do your homework about the crime. She did not commit it. She was not even there. They got the murderer, Rudy Guede, and convicted him. Most of what was reported were flat out lies. This was one of the worst miscarriages of justice and the prosecutor should be disbarred.

An international disgrace indeed. The prosecution should receive a life time ban from the US.

She was 100% INNOCENT!

Total railroad job.

Not only should she not step foot in Italy, NONE OF US should ever step foot in Italy.

Their laws are absurd. Their judicial system was exposed by her kangaroo court trial.

This case is one of my crusades. I followed it thoroughly at the time. Most people commenting on the case do so on the basis of bad cut and paste reporting. She was a young, dumb, slooty pot head, acting like an idiot overseas, but she had nothing to do with Merediths murder. Was not even there. Was at the other guys house hooking up.
