Watergate witness John Dean, answering the House Judiciary Committee's call to testify on this Monday, told CNN what he plans to say at the 2 p.m. hearing.

"What I'm going to try to do...I'm clearly not a fact witness, but I hope I can give them some context and show them how strikingly like Watergate what we're seeing now, and as reported in the Mueller report, is.

"So I've taken several examples from the Mueller report relating to obstruction of justice, which is their focus today, and looked at those and made the comparisons," Dean said Monday morning.

I agree about Pence. As I said before, Pence appears to wish-washy, is not a fighter, or, as you say, capable of carrying on the fight. Ron DeSantis would carry on the fight and Trump would be wise to choose him for VP in 2020.

There were those here, long ago, pushing Pence for president.

Back then I didn't know much about him so did a LOT of research and was not only NOT in the least impressed with him, but was decidedly AGAINST him EVER being president! I was horrified and disgusted when he was chosen to be VEEP and NOTHING has changed my mind about him.

He's not even worth discussing and I'll start worrying about 2024, IF Pence is still Trump's VEEP/running mate in the 2020 election.

Pence is not only wishy-washy, but a supercilious prig, AND a GOPEer.

He reminds me of Romney and GW Bush.

Trump had better get a new VP in 2020.

As supercilious as Romney, but sans the entitlement "nose in the air" hauteur, complete lack of spine, like W ( not to mention the Uriah Heepish subservience ), and those are the "better" qualities.

Sadly, Trump WILL keep the unsuitable, ridiculous Pence as VEEP, the GOPEers WILL push him to run for the presidency in 2024, and win or lose, Pence will accomplish the final destruction of the GOP.

I don’t think Trump is going to keep him. By now Trump can read him and knows he’s more of a liability than an asset.

Trump is EXTREMELY loyal, so I doubt that he’ll ditch Pence AND Pence was pushed on Trump by Jared & Ivanka.

This guy has not been involved in the investigations, so his opinion should mean nothing.

Exactly. Hannity kept repeating Dean was guilty of crimes, which is OK to say once, but the main point should have been that "Like Watergate" is Dean's preposterous opinion.

IIRC, Woodward denied ever being in the military. In fact, he was a Navy(?) radioman, and worked for Haig. Woodward would intercept messages from the State Department (esp. with Kissinger) and relay them to Haig. The military (Haig) hated the secret negotiations that Nixon and Kissinger were doing.

Makes one wonder again about Nellie Ohr's HAM radio

Heck, Watergate wasn’t even Nixon’s fault, it was Dean who caused the whole thing and lied to the burglars into thinking Nixon ordered it, and there’s evidence that Nixon covered it up simply out of loyalty to his friends and not because he approved of their actions, or for that matter had any prior knowledge to the break-in. So in all reality, other than maybe the coverup, Nixon’s literally blameless, while the Clintons and Obamas actually have been guilty of a LOT of things that make even the worst elements of the reported Watergate seem trivial by comparison.

If you’re referring to the Enemies’ List thing, I think that was forged by John Dean.

And I can’t say Nixon’s one of our better presidents (our being “allied” with China was indeed his fault, though I’d pin the blame more on Henry Kissinger than Nixon), but he still didn’t deserve his treatment at Watergate. If anything, Bill Clinton deserved it more, as did Obama (and it says a lot when one of our worst presidents ever, LBJ, had enough dignity and love for country to not bother running for reelection when it seemed like everyone stopped supporting his war, which was more respectable than Clinton and Obama were).

Funny, Pence being VP is pretty much the ONLY reason I even supported Trump in the 2016 elections due to his being pro-life (my first choice was Ben Carson), and I was wary of Trump especially after he implied in a speech in New York that he had no interest in removing Roe v. Wade. Eliminating Roe v. Wade is a pretty big deal breaker.
