Trump slams NYT story on Mexico pact as a ‘FRAUD’ and ‘hit job’

President Trump slammed The New York Times on Monday over an article on the administration’s immigration deal with Mexico that he called a “FRAUD” and a “hit job” -- while also warning that if Mexico's legislature does not approve the pact, he will move anew to impose tariffs.

The president's comments come after the administration on Friday announced a deal with Mexico which would halt Trump's threatened tariffs in exchange for Mexico taking further action to stop the flow of migrants from Central America to the U.S.-Mexico border.

According to the joint declaration issued by the State Department, Mexico will take “unprecedented steps to increase enforcement to curb irregular migration, to include the deployment of its National Guard throughout Mexico, giving priority to its southern border.”

It's good that Trump gets out his word via Twitter and corrects the MSM, when needed.

Indeed, the newspaper of both Uncle Walter and Uncle Herbert needs to have this done from time to time, doesn't it?

Sorry President Trump but if the tariffs were not implemented and we still have to wait for Mexico’s legislature to approve any deal, then in my book you were bluffing and I’m guessing illegals are still pouring across the border.

Trump says the deal is contingent on Mexico passing certain legislation but hasn’t said what that would entail. I’m guessing it would be Mexico declaring itself a “safe third country”

It’s not “irregular migration,” it’s an invasion.

“Sorry President Trump but if the tariffs were not implemented and we still have to wait for Mexico’s legislature to approve any deal, then in my book you were bluffing “

So your genius idea would be to use the threat of tariffs to get the agreement....then impose them anyway? The point of the tariffs is to get this stuff in motion. Like what the hell happens with them in place while Mexico has to get the agreement through their congress? Economic disruption for no other reason other than to “entertain” you?

Is the point of this to get an agreement or to just get at Mexico for fun?

Tariffs are not toys. Some of you dont seem to get this.

You quoted this part, then the rest of your response ignored it.

“if Mexico’s legislature does not approve the pact, he will move anew to impose tariffs.”

Every time the NYT lies and Trump exposes the lies, Trump comes out ahead. Even NYT readers will increasingly question the NYT’s credibility as the truth eventually comes out over and over again, repeatedly corroborating Trump’s accusation that the NYT publishes Fake News — which no intelligent person would want to read.

Also something else you missed because you couldn't be bothered reading he story.

He part of the deal needing approval by Mexico's legislature is something not be revealed to us as yet, this means what was revealed to us is within the purview
Of the Mexican president.

This is an excerpt from the "Agreement" posted on the DOS official website [https://www.state.gov/u-s-mexico-joint-declaration/]:

"As a result of these discussions, the United States and Mexico commit to:"

"... those crossing the U.S. Southern Border to seek asylum will be rapidly returned to Mexico where they may await the adjudication of their asylum claims."

This part puts control of the border back into US hands, because no matter what Mexico does or doesn't do about enforcement provision, THE US IS ALLOWED TURN THEM AROUND AT THE BORDER BACK INTO MEXICO.

Notice it says "commit to" as the actual agreement would be worded -- and not "committed to" as a 2nd hand report of the agreement would be worded.

Given Mexico’s past reluctance to do much of anything to help us doing anything at all would be considered “unprecedented steps”.

Just more fancy words that are nothing more than diplomatic BS.

Instead of name calling why not post valid links to the steps being taken? Do you have any doubt that Mexico could stop virtually 100% of illegal passing through their country immediately? So I imagine any minute an official from border control will announce breaking news that illegal immigration has completely stopped. Do you even pause for a second to think about why that probably won’t be happening simpleton?

Jeez guys, it’s hard enough keeping the stories straight without people only reading part of an article and posting an inaccurate conclusion.

Everything that you have heard about the deal is in place and active. Nothing has to be further approved by anybody.

Now, apparently, there is another part of the agreement pending... which will have to be approved by the Mexican legislature and about which nothing has been revealed.

Per Trump’s tweet:

“We have fully signed and documented another very important part of the Immigration and Security deal with Mexico, one that the U.S. has been asking about getting for many years. It will be revealed in the not too distant future and will need a vote by Mexico’s Legislative body!” Trump tweeted.

Post’s that get it wrong only muddy the water.

To heck with “deals”. We should make it clear that the burden is entirely on Mexico to step up their efforts stop the invasion into our country. Impose the tariffs first. When the flow of people, drugs and criminals slows down significantly we’ll consider lowering or taking them off BASED ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MEXICO’S EFFORTS.

Make it their problem, not ours.
