Medicare For All Rally Organizers Blame American Medical Association As Major Reason People Arent Covered
Doctors, nurses and others who support Medicare for all protested the American Medical Associations stance against a single-payer health care system at the associations annual meeting in Chicago Saturday.
The AMA is a major reason why 28 million Americans still dont have health insurance. By deploying powerful lobbying and misleading media campaigns, the AMA has opposed or hijacked nearly every health reform proposal of the last century, from Social Security to Medicare to the Affordable Care Act, rally organizers wrote in an op-ed in The Guardian Thursday. Medical students and professionals have had enough.
The Houses Medicare for all plan would apply Medicare-like coverage to all U.S. citizens within two years of its passage, according to the Washington Examiner. The plan, introduced by Democratic Reps. Pramila Jayapal of Washington and Debbie Dingell of Michigan, would be more extensive than Medicare in its coverage of mental health, addiction treatment, dental care and more.
Organizers expected several hundred participants at Saturdays rally, spokeswoman Clare Fauke of co-host organization Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) told The Daily Caller News Foundation in an email Friday.

“So, all you medical professionals that are rooting for “medicare for all”. How does $15.00/hour tops sound to you? “
Medicare for all is insane. I would rather trade my services for vegetables and carpentry than work for $15/hour after all the years I spent training, all the years I made little to no money, all the holidays I spent in the hospital, and all the nights I didn’t sleep. That said, I would happily work for free for someone who needed me and couldn’t pay. Happily. I will not, however, let resentful people who use government as a weapon take any more than they have from me.
I believe you are confusing Medicaid with Medicare. Medicare is the over-65 medical insurance plan. The premiums are income-adjusted.
Medicaid is medical welfare for those who are quite poor, and can be of any age. It is Medicaid which seeks to reclaim funds if someone poor enough to be on it manages to somehow amass some funds before they die.
Also, be aware that the program that the Dems are talking about is poorly formed, but would be almost certain to not be "Medicare for all" in any meaningful sense. They might call it that, but they'll destroy the existing Medicare program. It might be more like "Medicaid for all."
