PHOENIX The man shot in the groin with a non-lethal weapon by police during a protest outside a 2017 Phoenix appearance by President Donald Trump intends to sue the city.
Joshua Cobin told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Friday that seeing Facebook posts by police officers that mocked the incident pushed him to file a precursor to a lawsuit this week.
The posts were in the news after this weeks release of the Plain View Project, a database of public Facebook activity by current and former police personnel in eight cities, including Phoenix.
The projects website says the posts and comments selected were related to race, religion, ethnicity and the acceptability of violent policing and could undermine public trust and confidence in police.
Cobin said hed been preparing the lawsuit for a while but was motivated to move ahead by the contents of the database.
He said he found three current officers along with many former officers who had made malicious, mocking posts about a citizen theyre supposed to be protecting and serving.
The Chandler resident, who lived in Scottsdale at the time of the Trump rally, said he was nauseous to learn he was a subject of some posts.
After I saw that, and seeing how officers who are supposed to protect and serve are mocking a private citizen on their public social media accounts, that really just galvanized me to file it, he said.
lol
Did he get a Darwin Award for not being able to reproduce?
He was downrange and the police were trying to disperse the mob he was part of by non-lethal means. They did not target his tiny balls. He has no case.
I remember this. Takes a lot a balls
As I recall, he threw an object toward the Police before he was hit with the Pepper Ball. He chose poorly.
Besides, he failed to disperse as ordered. Sometimes standing you ground will only get you rolling on the ground.
Okay then. Next time a double tap of .40.
Protecting the rest of the public from him.
Dang, was hoping for video.
Jeez...it was non-lethal. What more does he want? Lesson learned: If you don’t act violently at a protest, you won’t get your balls shot off.
I always thought that his name was Pepper Balls.
Anybody else miss the old days when stupidity wasn’t celebrated and would slink off to history hoping all forget it ever happened?
Would love to be on that jury. Suing because he was mocked? He deserves it.
That idiot was participating in a riot—he has not case. The Southern Poverty Law Center is trying to help him bolster his case, apparently.
I want to know how the cop was able hit such a small target. That takes some serious skill! I bet he could knock the wings off a fly from 5000 feet.
LMAO!!!!
Thank you.
