When President Donald Trump drapes the Medal of Honor -- our nation's highest honor -- around David Bellavia on June 25, the Batavia resident will become the lone living veteran of the Iraq War to receive the honor.
Bellavia, who co-hosts a news talk show on WBEN, wasn't available for comment today.
Bellavia is already a Silver Star recipient for his single-handed battle against a nest of insurgents during the Second Battle of Fallujah.
He's also received the Bronze Star, three Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, and the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross.
The Batavian will cover the press conference in Buffalo next week and the award ceremony at the White House on June 25 at the invitation of Bellavia.

What’s a Batavia?
A city in New York....
New York does not deserve this hero.
There are millions of amazing people in that state. Unfortunately for them, NYC and the other cities in the state, Albany-Buffalo-Rochester, run it. Get outside the cities and you’ll find that NY State is as Conservative as any other. And much like California, Illinois, Michigan, Colorado, Washington, and Oregon, if it weren’t for the cities things would be quite different.
I’d love to see someone do an analysis if the state voting were done like the Electoral College, something where each voting precinct got one vote, I’m quite sure that there wouldn’t be many Dem’s in office. And it’d be a great way to deal with voter fraud, IMHO.
Well it’s about time. I’ve read Sgt. Bellavia’s story. It’s simply amazing. God bless him.
“Nest of insurgents’’? The man single handedly cleaned out a house full of jihadi dirt bags and beat one the Muslim animals to death with his bare hands shouting “The power of Christ compels you!’’ the whole time.
I dare say that upstate, near Canada is a beautiful part of the world.
I think of New your as looking like a fine dog. Its tail is Long Island. And NYC is where the crap comes out.
It's west of Buffalo. Got a lot of grass.
I meant east of Buffalo. West of Buffalo is Lake Erie.
Western New York, through the Finger Lakes is one of the most beautiful spots on this wonderful planet. David Bellavia USA talk show host in Buffalo. He is as stand up as it gets.
I’m from Long Island. Made it out of there in the early 90s. It’s a mix. Some of the most Conservative folks you’ll meet, some of the most liberal folks you’ll meet.
But VermontLt, you couldn’t be more right about NYC. Sadly, the Blue Collar Conservative types in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx don’t stand a chance against that machine. Staten Island holds its own, but a Republican in NY is better than nothing, but they can’t hold a candle to one from the South or Midwest.
It WAS a city in western NY. Now it is like every other shattered western NY city...an empty shell filled with zombies.
