ATLANTA - In 2018, Stacey Abrams was the first Georgia gubernatorial nominee to march the Atlanta Pride Parade. In 2019, she will be the grand marshal of the event.
The Democrat released a video Friday thanking the LGBTQ community for the honor – and took a shot at Republican Gov. Brian Kemp for supporting a “religious liberty” measure.
“We have an administration that is making life difficult for families wishing to adopt and patriots wishing to serve,” she said. “And we have a man in Georgia governor’s mansion who still wants to sign discrimination into law.
Her focus on the event during the gubernatorial race underscored a shift in Georgia politics as Democrats increasingly embraced LGBTQ equality to contrast themselves with Republicans ahead of the midterms.
Other statewide Democrats have embraced gay rights, for certain, but didn’t put it at the heart of their campaigns. The U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage and shifting political views on LGBTQ rights has helped cement a new Democratic approach.

Doesn’t have to. All it has to do is ‘play sufficiently well’ in Atlanta. IOW’s they get fawning local and national TV coverage for the event — they can define it as a success. You know that tv will play with camera angles to show “huge crowds” while being ready to show any “rowdy conservative counter-protestors”.

The metro ATL is a solid blue area along with Macon, Athens and Savannah.
You get out into the non-metro areas of GA and it becomes more conservative.
Abrams will ride the theme of "I got cheated" if she runs for Senate in 2020.
They’re doing it here in Indianapolis too. A republican running for mayor was forbidden from marching in the parade because he supported RFRA but they sheered that they couldn’t stop him from attending (so much for diversity)
So who’s the grand marshal of the Indy parade? The lesbian counselor at a Private Catholic school who’s contract wasn’t renewed because she married her lover which was against catholic values she promised to uphold when she signed the contract and is now suing the school because her rights or something.
These aren’t diversity marches nor support for teh gayez. These are outright political marches for socialists.
She’d be better suited to being a balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.

Trump’s 45h of July parade should have a huge banner with MAGA being paraded down the parade route.
The parade should be called “America Pride Parade”.
