My first pass hypothesis is that the falling HIV mortality is just unmasking the suicide rate. That is, some of those that died of HIV would have committed suicide if they hadn’t died of HIV first.
HIV doesn’t kill them right away. Knocks 15 years from their lives. AIDS kills them.
