Oakland Becomes Second U.S. City to Legalize ‘Magic Mushrooms
Daily Beast ^ | 6/5/2019 | Jamie Ross

Oakland has followed the lead of Denver to become the second city in the United States to legalize use of “magic mushrooms.” The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to decriminalize adult use and possession of all psychoactive plants and psilocybin fungi. Council member Noel Gallo, who introduced the resolution, said the move will allow the local police force to focus on serious crimes. Some caveats were added to the resolution through amendments, including a warning that the mushrooms “are not for everyone,” and that people “don’t go solo” when trying them out for the first time. “Entheogenic plants and fungi are tremendous for helping to enable healing, particularly for folks who have experienced trauma in their lives,” said Carlos Plazola, chair of the group Decriminalize Nature Oakland.

You can’t buy menthol cigarettes in Oakland but apparently you will soon be able to buy mushrooms.

Oakland cops no longer respond to calls about auto break-ins, even super bad ones.

They encourage law-breaking, so the solution for the massive crime-wave is to re-classify crimes as non-crimes.

Presto..!

Crime reduction.

I’ll be Denver next week. Are the pot dispensaries actually selling mushrooms? It sounds like the best idea is to drive as defensively and fast as possible to get in and out of the area.

Anything to distract the Oakland residents from the fact that the city has bankrupt the account, and crime is rampant.....because of the Mayor and Council. And the stupid “gimmedats” that vote for more free shit and stupid leadership.

My reading of this indicates de-criminalization, but not legalization. So, no dispensary sales.

For now.

Oakland used to have precincts throughout the city. Now everything is run out of police headquarters downtown. Bad way to police a large city.

My nephew-in-law is here from Denver for a family event, I’ll try to remember to ask if he knows. He used to work security for a dispensary while he was going to college on the GI Bill, he’s a Marine grunt and a great guy.

My new rule when visiting such states is never eat uncanned foods there. You don’t know what is in “fresh baked” cookies or bread anymore.

Q: Will magic mushrooms be legal in Denver?

A: No. Absolutely not.

As a Schedule 1 narcotic under federal law, psychedelic mushrooms are illegal to sell or possess in Denver and everywhere else in the United States. Denver’s ballot initiative could not change that, and it didn’t.

“We recognize Denver’s right to conduct this experiment to shift law enforcement priorities away from psilocybin,” said Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser. “As a matter of state and federal law, however, buying, selling, or possessing psychedelic mushrooms is still illegal.”

Q: So, what does change?

A: How the city’s police treat violations of the law.

Initiative 301 says personal use and possession of psilocybin mushrooms by people 21 years old and over will become “the city’s lowest law-enforcement priority.” It prohibits the city of Denver “from spending resources to impose criminal penalties” for the personal use of psychedelic mushrooms by people 21 and older.

Well, it is certainly kind of them to advise consumer’s “don’t go solo”... When it is about an hour into the psilocybin experience, and the landscape has started to melt and flow in front of you, a friend observing the same thing can make the experience quite enjoyable. Warning: Avoid driving, as the roadside fauna has a penchant for flowing over the window sills and on to the floor mats.

I suspect it won’t be long that Baghdad will look tame compared to Oakland. Was in Seattle a few years ago and the levels of mentally ill people roaming around made the city look like an episode of the walking dead.
