I was a huge fan of playing dodge-ball. And my favorite part was being the target. I had a reputation for being almost impossible to hit. And I was tall for my age.
Adults protecting the weak and meek from the reality that humans develop different physical abilities. Next, they should ban the Olympics, the NFL, the World Series and the World cup.
Loved dodgeball. We had a rule no headshots. Any headshot accidental or otherwise - you were out.

I loved to play as well. We used a soccer ball sized ball and as you said we would love winging it full force. I never remember even one time when the game was stopped due to injury.
The worst thing ever happened was a kid got plunked in the mouth or nose. They left the game and the teacher handed them a tissue. The game went on
This was way back in the 1953-54 era in Northern NJ.
No, what these "researchers" are pushing is equality as they define it. Eliminating competition so that everybody gets an equal reward.
Meanwhile, our enemies are cultivating the spirit of competition and victory in the minds of their own children. Someday, it's going to come down to "us" vs "them", and "us" isn't going to know how to compete. Our collapse will be epic.
This, of course, is what "researchers" want.
Our recess wasn’t that long so I had to move things along. We used to play with four balls. One side would gather all four balls and shotgun the other side. That was fun.
We used to play serious dodgeball at my Catholic high school.
Many of the students went on to Notre Dame and other good universities, and many successful people attended the reunions for 50 years.
I don’t know how we survived without trauma from dodgeball.
