A lot of Christian practice is ‘re-purposed’ from paganism. Just because someone likes it doesn’t mean they invented it.
A Connecticut man I knew claimed to be abused by the Church in the 1950s.
His Catholic marriage fell apart, after which he couldn’t hold an ENGINEERING job, couldn’t pay support for his ex-wife and daughter, left a pile of valuables in a storage shed, didn’t keep in touch. We were all shocked to learn that he was found in an abandoned car in New London, years later, destitute and deceased at age 53.
Of course, it could have been living in Connecticut that caused a bad outcome for this poor guy.
As the head of a deacon board of a Baptist Church I fired a pastor for molesting 14-year-old girl. He was on administrative leave pending trial but as the facts came out in the case it became impossible to give him the benefit of the doubt.
