The "Equality Act" has not been approved by the Senate nor signed by the President. It is not law. If anyone is using it as "law", it is a fraudulent use.

Pardon my oversight. It's a story from the fruitcake UK and it is the Equalities Act there not the "Equality Act" just passed by the Democratically controlled US House.

On the other hand, degrees in particle physics and cosmology (or cosmetology) don’t add anything to a LEO application.

Reminds me of when I minored in computer science in college around 1970, abbreviated as comsci on forms. Everyone thought it was related to cosmetology (no one knew about computing).

I used to recruit and hire many engineers. My VP once told me that the only thing a degree does is tell you that the person has the ability to learn.

Reminds of a old EE professor friend of mine said.
Mind you his saying was for those fresh out of school with no experience. (And applies to engineering & the hard science only!)

BS - means you can be taught.
MS - means you can be taught, and write a little about it.
PhD - means you can be taught, and write a little about it and do a little something on your own.
