North Carolinians don't generally like their US Senators. Almost every election cycle starts with some incumbent Senator with a favorability rating somewhere in the mid-30s. We routinely throw out Senators after one term. Only two Senators, Jesse Helms and Richard Burr, have been re-elected in the state since 1972.
This year, it's Thom Tillis who looks embattled. His approval rating is upside down and according to poll commissioned by the conservative group Club for Growth, only 45 percent of Republicans approve of Tillis. The Club wants to push Sixth District Congressman Mark Walker into a primary. Walker hasn't said no.
Tillis has already drawn one opponent, Garland Tucker. Tucker is an old school, pre-Trump conservative. He's from the business sector and probably doesn't appeal to the more populist GOP base in North Carolina. He might be able to force Tillis to spend a lot of money, but he probably can't beat him in a head-to-head.

We have constant hit ads on Tillis by Garland Tucker in the Triangle area of NC.
They label him as a Rhino.
Basically all 100 Senators suck.
Who does?
Burr and Tillis are real disappointments.
And that is what happens when it’s the popular vote. Cities dictate to everyone, after stealing from successful rural ares to finance the continuation of typhus in LA.
I believe the writer of this article is known as a leftie.
Along with countless others, from Murkowski to Collins to the new John McCain, Mitt Romney.
How is it the Democrats manage to keep their senators and representatives voting as a monolithic bloc year after year, while RINOs run rampant?
Without a doubt, it’d be nice to see the 17th Amendment tossed to the scrap heap of history and have Senators go to DC the way they’re supposed to. But, if that isn’t happening any time soon, it sure would be nice to see an ‘electoral college’ on the state level as well. It’s getting a tad ridiculous that all the liberals in the cities can dictate, damn near everything.
As previously stated in another thread, put Mark Meadows in Tillis place, put Tucker in the House for two years to prove his bona fides, then and only then if he has made any attempt to be at least more conservative than either of our other two losers, put him in Burrs spot. The writer of the piece is probably a big gov.com Progressive so I give about 1/3 of what he said as close to correct. This is the second article on this subject on FR today and neither author gave any mention of Meadows. Why are they afraid of him?
Tillis will not get my vote. I supported the Cumberland Co GOP as a voting judge and making calls up until McCain/Rubio stabbed us in the back on Immigration in 2014. That was it. I wrote the GOP Chair and formerly removed myself from the party.
gopT not GOPe.
“How is it the Democrats manage to keep their senators and representatives voting as a monolithic...”
I would guess basic fear of loosing financial support to run their re-election campaigns.
