FULL TITLE: Businesses will have to accept 'short-term pain' for 'long-term gain' on Mexico tariff, Rep. Andy Biggs says
President Trump's threatened tariff on Mexico would initially hurt businesses but eventually help the country in the long-term, Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., said on Saturday while appearing on "America's News Headquarters."
"I'm with them, I understand that. And they're right," Biggs said when asked about constituents who worried their businesses would suffer.
"I would say this is a long-term issue that we're trying to resolve and hopefully we can get through with as minimal pain for as short a period as possible and I'm hoping that we can avert the actual imposition of the 5 percent tariff, but we've got to solve this border crisis because it is a severe crisis and quite frankly, I think it's going to result in a resolution that will solve the problem and that is good for the country and that will be good for the businesses in my district," he said.
Biggs portrayed Trump as backed into a corner on border security and needing to use tougher negotiating tactics to get Mexico to cooperate.
MOLLIE HEMINGWAY: TRUMP TARIFF PLAN NEEDED BECAUSE CONGRESS WON'T ACT
Pointing to how Mexico had already sent an envoy, Biggs indicated that Trump's tariff threat would work.
"If this were not going to work to try to ameliorate the border issue that we have, then I would expect Mexico not to send an envoy immediately," he said.

“Ask not what your country can do for you, what you can do for your country”.
We’ve already been on the long term pain since all our trade deals that gave away the bank to our allies AND our enemies. A few more months isn’t going to hurt that much more when you can imagine a future of FAIR trade. We will kick their butts because no country an produce like America can.
Maybe the CEOs could go from 140 million a year to 10 million. God forbid.
True: When I go to the grocery store I refuse to buy any vegetable that does not say USA. Who would buy a Mex onion know when Vidalia onions are all over. Fast tip- but the flatter ones-not round.

Ameliorate? FEH!
Reform? FEH!
Totally gut and fix the problem!
Someone explain how a tariff hurts American wage earners? All a tariff is is an artificial means of injecting inflation into the supply chain. This all it does AND RAISES LOTS OF FEDERAL $$$$$$. If you are deficit hawk you should be elated when tariffs are put into effect!!!!
Every time Mexico makes another idiot statement the tariff needs to go up.
Maybe mex can build a wall on their side of the border...

Watch your business go bankrupt? Lay off employees?
Maybe, lay off you $12 an hour employees, and hire the illegals we are handing work permits to at $7.25 an hour.
Maybe that will work.
Add India to the list.

Too much too fast.
They call this a trade WAR. In wartime, people have to do their parts. So, you have to buy a Camry and somehow subsist without guacamole. This does not seem like extreme hardship.

To be fair, they have developed enough to send a spacecraft to Mars.
Lives, fortunes, and sacred honor.
Another clueless politician. Business are just first in line to be troubled then hurt by a tariff. He is a dope.
If he had anything to him he would be working to overturn the horrible and self-destructive immigration laws we have. He would at least stand up and tell the truth.
What an ass.
Why don't you ask someone who fought for our country!

Do you think that none of the small business owners I know who are already struggling are not disabled vets, or former military?
Hey, your straw man is burning.
I would have hit them with a 25% tariff right off the bat to let them know we were serious .... 50% the second month with a 10% remittance tax for money going to Mexico.
So you are ok with the invasion, I take it.

Not sure how you can equate tariffs effect on American businesses to support for our open Southern Border.
