I think that Obama when studying in Hawaii might have gotten the figure 57 from being taught about all the parts of the United States that vote or are territories, including Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, US Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands. This comes to 56. Maybe there was another when he was in school or he forgot the right number. Certainly there would have been more emphasis in school placed on these Pacific Island US territories as being worth remembering.

The introduction clearly has him pointing out that at the time our founding documents were written, voting was not allowed by blacks, women, or people without property of the right amount.

Wall Street Journal editorial board member Bill McGurn discusses the report that the Obama administration gave Iran brief access to the U.S. financial system. A Senate subcommittee report alleges that the Obama administration secretly sought to give Iran access to U.S. financial systems by sidestepping sanctions kept in place after the 2015 nuclear deal.

The report claims the Obama Treasury Department issued a license to Bank Muscat to authorize "conversion of Iranian assets worth billions of U.S. dollars using the U.S. financial system."

“I think it’s part of a larger fraud of the Iran deal where it was presented as a treaty, but they made an end run around the Senate,” Wall Street Journal editorial board member Bill McGurn told FOX Business on Thursday. President Donald Trump is calling for an investigation into the allegations outlined in the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations report. Your right, Canal Zone would have made 57 states, territories, and jurisdictions of the US, and Obama was in school before Carter acted. So you are saying that the Canal Zone is now a part of and governed by Panama. Is it sort of like Hong Kong now being part of China?

Yes, we no longer have an jurisdiction of the Canal Zone, except for ‘protection’ of the ‘Freedom of the Seas’.

Last I heard, China had the contract to maintain and operate the Canal and it locks and train.
