Ben & Jerry's plans a CBD-infused ice cream, pending FDA approval

Ben & Jerry's said Thursday it's planning to release a CBD-infused ice cream as soon as it becomes legal to add cannabidiol to food and beverages.

The ice cream maker said it submitted a comment supporting the regulation change to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Congress legalized the sale of CBD-infused topical products, like creams and ointments, but the FDA for now prohibits ingestible products, citing health concerns.

Forget your midnight pint of "Half Baked" ice cream. Ben & Jerry's said Thursday it plans to release a new CBD-infused ice cream flavor, joining other major consumer brands eager to add the hemp-derived compound to food and beverages as soon as it becomes legal on the federal level.

The Burlington, Vermont-based ice cream manufacturer said it submitted a comment supporting the legalization to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, ahead of the federal agency's first public hearing Friday discussing the regulation of CBD-infused edibles with industry leaders.

"We're doing this for our fans," Ben & Jerry's CEO Matthew McCarthy said in a statement.

Unlike cannabis, CBD does not get users "high" from the THC chemical, and is touted to have medicinal benefits, easing symptoms of anxiety and depression, for instance.

Congress legalized hemp production in December in the 2018 Farm Act, permitting the sale of CBD-infused topical products like creams and ointments. However, the FDA has prohibited the sale of CBD in food and drinks without its approval, and the agency bars CBD in dietary supplements.

Sounds like a good fit. Clogged arteries might give a person anxiety and/or depression.

LOL, you've got to take your medicine. It isn't medicine if it doesn't taste at least a little like crap.

“Unlike cannabis, CBD does not get users “high” from the THC chemical”

What a Marijuana High Feels Like

The marijuana high is one of the most unpredictable of all drug intoxication effects, despite the fact that it is often considered to be a “soft” drug. When people are stoned on marijuana, the experience is strongly affected by factors that have little to do with the drug, and are actually due to the sensitivity of the person taking the drug to their surroundings and their feelings about the people they are with. The frame of mind of the person using marijuana and the various aspects of the place where they use marijuana that influence the effects are known as set and setting.

Altered Sensory Perceptions

Most people experience changes in their sensory perceptions when they are stoned. While marijuana does not typically produce real hallucinations the way that hallucinogenic drugs like LSD do, people do tend to see the world in a different way when they are high on cannabis than they do normally.

Effects on Mood and Mental State
The effects of marijuana on mood vary greatly from one person to another, but generally, emotions are exaggerated in a similar way to the intoxication effects of alcohol. Situations that normally seem emotionally neutral may appear amusing or ridiculous, or conversely, intimidating and upsetting.

Ben and Jerry’s openly preaches its politics, teams up with leftist political organizations, and names some of its flavors after political causes (such as Pecan Resist last year before the midterms), so I refuse to give them any money. It’s not like there aren’t a million other good ice cream brands out there.

CBD oil helped me with SO MANY things!!

For 10 days.

Just like neurontin.

Just like lyrica.

I took up to 160 mgs of roxys at one point and came off of them cold turkey with no withdrawals.

My body gets used to every DAM medicine so fast.

Roger that!

I have been boycotting their commie ice cream for years. I vaguely recall eating a scoop or two back at least 20 years ago.

It was fine. But then I read about the owners and their lefty virtue signaling. I was on to that little game even before the term was coined.

Today, I wouldn’t buy their commie product if Publix was offering it for 50 cents a pint.
