Too bad Fagberg didn't learn a damn thing from the great W.F.B.
Me , too .
I believe the appropriate resign is “So long, and thanks for all the fish”, but Jonah sucks so...
Well said.
Go pickup Bill Kristol and remake Thelma and Louise....especially the cliff scene.
Will he be coming to future Conservative Inc. boat cruises?
The point here is that the only real defense against that alliance is a right-wing populist. Trump is not my ideal President (many of the complaints about his personality are valid, I think), but I see that hes a necessary one for the times. Never-Trumpers like Jonah will never see that.
While this alliance has weak spots I don't think it will soon fracture.
The country club-globalists (think that weasel Paul Ryan) are not uncomfortable at all with ‘changing the demographic’. Turd worlders don't work as hard and are often just plain stupid/illiterate but they are generally compliant employees. remember how G W Bush fawned over the illegals. A lot of rich Texans find it very galling that most regular white Texans think they are just as good as Bush or the Houston oil cabal types. Selling the US out is good business for these people and the muzzards seem to them a good bet for cheap labor and to maybe control the red necks.
Seems NR didn’t hate Trump nearly as much as Jonah thought they should have.
NR has been a "has been" for at least 20-years...
NR had become a cheerleader rag for the Republican Establishment soon after Reagan left office. Long before Lucianne somehow managed to get her boy Jonah his job there. Jonah was just the opportunistic infection that takes advantage of an already dying host.
I first subscribed to National Review when Carter was President, so I got to enjoy the ride that resulted in the election of Reagan. It was a great magazine then, with the likes of James Burnham, Clyde Wilson, Joe Sobran, Russell Kirk, Warren Brookes, Stephen Tonsor and Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn.
WHERE THE GOOD LORD SPLIT’YA.
Who???
The sun is out and the sky is blue. It’s never a bad day when a NeverTrumper pos leaves the field. May your next venture be as big a flop as you deserve.
I lost my NR virginity in 1959... Had the pleasure of hearing William B. in person a few times...
Have always felt that the steady decline of NR, begining in the 1990's, was it's catching-up to the onset of the Nation's decline (which began in the 1960's) into the full-blown Orwellian state in which we now exist...
“I lost my NR virginity in 1959.”
I was 8 in 1959 so that might have been a bit early for me... but growing up in Washington DC I knew the names of politicians the way that most kids knew baseball players.
I met WFB and heard him make a speech in the late 1980s although I can’t recall anything in particular about that speech. IMO Buckley’s main contribution to conservative politics was assembling the cast of writers who made up National Review.
Buckley himself never seemed to contribute much to the magazine and his own literary output was mostly spy novels. But the writers he collected for NR in the ‘70s and ‘80s made it outstanding.
That and your post #23 is a great summation of Goldberg’s successful wrecking of what was left of the National Review.
“[WFB] would never had let the NR become a nest of never Trumpers and globalists.”
No, no he would not. Such a shame about this rag.
He nailed it with Liberal Fascism and then went bonkers over Trump. A sad tale.
It is truly fascinating how a person can have both great and terrible instincts.
