Democrats ramp up campaign to get Mueller to testify

House Democrats are ramping up their campaign to get Robert Mueller to testify despite the special counsel’s stated aim to avoid such an appearance on Capitol Hill.

Democrats negotiating for Mueller to come before several committees hope to avoid the antagonistic step of issuing a subpoena to compel his testimony, but they’re not ruling it out.

Plenty of unanswered questions remain about Mueller’s sweeping investigation, and Democrats want to hear from the special counsel.

“I understand his reluctance,” Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.), a member of the Judiciary Committee, said Thursday by phone. “But I think the stakes are so high that he has an obligation to [testify].”

Richmond said he wants Mueller to parse the details of the Justice Department guidelines barring the agency from indicting a sitting president. Mueller cited those rules Wednesday in asserting that bringing charges against President Trump was “not an option.”

“There are a million questions you can ask, and that's why you have testimony,” said Richmond, who also wants to know if others in Trump’s inner circle committed indictable offenses. “I don't care if it's private — I'm not saying it has to be public testimony — but there are questions I think people need an answer to.”

A Mueller hearing would be a circus, and it’s one the former FBI chief wants to avoid.

On Wednesday, he said he hopes his report will serve in place of his testimony, and he warned he would not expand upon it in public.

“I hope and expect this to be the only time that I will speak to you about this matter," Mueller said during his quick remarks at the Justice Department.

That seems unlikely to slide with Democrats, who think they should get a chance to speak to Mueller after the high-profile two-year investigation.

Perjury is a CRIME.

He may hang himself in the basement before he goes before congress.

Good.

Mulehead won’t come. He doesn’t want to answer questions like when he knew his entire investigation was BS?

It could be a perjury trap. He keeps changing his story.

he’s their boy, so he will probably testify and sing in many high notes for them

it appears we are in for more and more of this libelous innuendo (and still....not a single criminal charge, not even a lousy jaywalking ticket against PDJT!)

the D party hacks are liars far better than Jos. Goebbels ever was!

I would prefer that Mueller testify before the Senate committees before going to the House.

I have serious doubts mueller will ever testify. But if he does, we paid for it so it better be public.

He’s never going to testify. He knows that at the very least one Republican will nail him with under direct questioning he has until this point hasn’t answered, avoided and plan to never ever answer. Mueller wants to infer and say political things against Trump without being held accountable

This quote (can’t remember who said it) applies to the Rats with respect to Mueller testifying”

There are two great tragedies in life:
1) You fail to get what you want
2) You succeed in getting what you want

If he testifies to Nadless’s committee, he must be drug into Lindsey Graham’s Senate committee. Nadless won’t be fair to the Republican questioning.

The reason I say I would like to see him testify first before the Senate committees is because Mueller knows full well he failed to accomplish the assigned mission = to uncover Russian collusion. There is solid evidence of Russian collusion only it wasn’t with Trump or the Republican campaign. It was Russian collusion with H. Clinton and Obama. Mueller failed to investigate that fact and thereby failed in his job as Special Counsel. Maybe he fears his failure will be publicized and his name will go down the gutter of history. This has monumental consequences.

Mueller is a coward. That’s why he announced upfront that he wasn’t going to answer any questions yesterday. His voice was so weak and he was so unfamiliar with the statement that was obviously written for him that he sounded like he was in a full-blown panic. If someone had yelled “boo” he would have wet his pants.

I’d like to see him answer all kinds of questions, like when did he know there was no collusion, why didn’t he show any interest in the origins of the dossier, why didn’t he investigate Clinton’s relations with Russians.

He clearly stated it's pointless for him to testify because he won't answer any questions beyond what he wrote in the final report.

I don't know what the Democrats are trying to do or even if they're serious.

Is this just a means to placate their base so they can say, 'we tried'?

Who’s to say he didn’t investigate that part?

And then left that part out of his report

After destroying as much of the evidence as possible

I only see one Democrat in this article pushing for it.

And without looking him up, I’d guess “Cedric” has about as much business being on the Judiciary Committee as my boxer/? mutt does

Mueller is a coward.

Indeed. Did you listen to his voice quivering during that press conference thing? He just sounded like a little boy lying.

Yeah. That's what I don't get. At work (DC suburb ) I come into contact with tons of people who vote Rat and they are sick of this. Let alone this may give some Republican an opportunity to rip in to him.

Therefore I vote YES!!!
