Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) on Thursday vetoed a bill which would have pledged the states six electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote for President of the United States.
Once effective, the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact could diminish the role of smaller states like Nevada in national electoral contests and force Nevadas electors to side with whoever wins the nationwide popular vote, rather than the candidate Nevadans choose, a statement via Sisolak reads. I recognize that many of my fellow Nevadans may disagree on this point and I appreciate the legislatures thoughtful consideration of this important issue. As Nevadas governor, I am obligated to make such decisions according to my own conscience. In cases like this, where Nevadas interests could diverge from the interests of large states, I will always stand up for Nevada.

Sisolak is a greasy tool of the mob and union goons. But he proved himself to be an American. I give credit where it’s due. Granted, we conservatives are guilty of the soft bigotry of low expectations
FINALLY
Someone on that side UNDERSTANDS WHY the Electoral College EXISTS.
Come out of the insanity that is Democrat party, Mister Governor. You are DOOMED if you stay there. And this veto of yours is the beginning of your hell if you don’t get out
He got a lot of pressure. Trust us, he is an UBER lib and I’m actually pretty surprised he didn’t sign it.
Not a chance. One right doesn’t fix the multitude of wrongs.
Not really. Ask us living in NV.
I am glad he did veto it in any case.
LOL! Me too.
God Bless him. Prayers for a real awakening.
Wow! A Dem with common sense! rarer than hen’s teeth ...
He understands that his own power and significance will be greatly reduced by the ability of national candidates to completely ignore them in favor of high-pop states.
Gore? What ruling was that?
Good for him. He chose the Constitution and his State over his party.
I’m sitting here stunned that this SINGLE moment of sanity is getting Sissy so much praise!
He’s eviscerated our Nevada RKBA and trashed private property rights, among other socialist activism.
He’s so corrupt I do not expect him to complete his term without a Fed. indictment.
But doing ONE thing right, probably because he fears DT will win the popular vote, and too many here shower him in accolades.
Before awarding him so much praise I suggest looking into his OTHER activities.
The parables of the Blind Pig and Stopped Clock spring to mind!
He was NOT on the bench in the supreme court when that happened.
Yes, thanks, I got that wrong. I think I got confused by the fact that Roberts talked about the 2000 ruling. I am concerned about his management of the FISA courts. Maybe he would rule a NPR law unconstiutional, not sure.
I think he was clerk in that court during that time. I am not sure though. Dunno who he clerked for if he was.
Its a constant crap shoot picking these SOBs for that court. They lie like hell to get that lifetime position and then turn a 180 once they are in.
BIG discussion during the constitutional debates by our founders about the appointment of the scotus justices. A lot wanted them to be voted in. And most didnt want them to have lifetime appointments. How the hell it happened the way it did I dont know.
Yale, MIT study: 22 million, not 11 million, undocumented immigrants in US [1]
There's no way there are only 2.2 million illegals in CA at any given time (or 1.6 mil in TX or under a mil in FL or NY). Just about every single farm and ranch in the state employ illegals. Not to mention the hotel, construction workers and gardeners. And all those that don't work. Generations of foreign nationals who have subverted our rule of law and spit on our national sovereignty.
So you mean to tell me if a Candidate wins the California vote by just one vote, he gets ALL of Californias EVs?
I dont see how thats really fair, neither."
No. Not by 1 vote. If that where to happen, there would be a runoff election by law.
In CA, to win all EC votes, one must get 50.1 percent of the vote [1]. In 2016, CA cast 14,181,595 votes for president[2]. Assuming only 2 candidates, and every vote was cast for one or the other, that means, the EC vote winner must get 7,104,979 votes to the second place winner 7,076,616. A difference of 28,363 votes. So not even close to just 1 vote.
Now, is the EC system perfect? Well, depends on who you ask. Is it better than winner take all? The framers and founders thought so, and so did generations after them. Why? Without it, the massive population centers on the coasts will become the only place presidents paid attention to, effectively pushing the rest of the country out of our republic form of federal government. Even less "United" States of America. Would give a whole new meaning to "flyover country."
