Those guys undermined Moore because they knew damn well that he would be one of the most unreliable GOP votes in the U.S. Senate on almost ANY issue.

Yes he had. I think he was too "countryfied" and too "declasse" for their tastes. Also he wanted to fight with oppressive Federal edicts, and they just wanted to get along.

I don't believe that at all. I think the "establishment" undermined him because they knew they wouldn't be able to schmooze him into business as usual. Moore would have been a reformer, and he would have probably embarrassed them constantly by appealing to God and stuff.
They probably saw him as a Public Relations nightmare for the other Republicans in more liberal/moderate states.
