The core criticism of the SAT is that wealthy parents can afford to spend more on test prep.

My test prep for the SAT was my pals telling me that they'd "see me there" in the morning, as the pizza party broke up at 9 the previous night.

I stomped everybody in the school...

My school classmates obsessed on prep for the PSAT and taking the SAT. I wasn't aware or interested in prep. I signed up for the test and arrived on the morning of the test. Did morning session, zipped to 7-11 and downed a quart of eggnog for lunch, then took the afternoon test.

I was late applying to UCSD, so I started in January 1974. I graduated with my BA in Molecular Biology in June 1976 at age 19. Many of my obsessive classmates didn't complete the first year. Others went on be be doctors and lawyers. Tenacity is an attribute that SAT doesn't measure well.
