The worst American car company and the worst Italian car company merging with the worst French car company.

Can’t wait to buy one.

Back in the late 70’s-80’s GM produced econoboxes like the Chevy Chevette and the Pontiac J-2000. Junkarooskies too.

They are ok as long as you can afford to have a mechanic and set of tools with you whenever you are driving.

In 1964-1968 when I had mine almost no mechanic or dealer had the European metric system tools to work on it. They had "no foreign car service" signs often. I later bought strictly American because of that (and then patriotism---I felt ashamed I bought a foreign car once) until last year. Also, all the Americans traitorously bought foreign as the 1970s got under way so mechanics bought the tools. Millions in my state of Michigan were financially ruined by the destruction of American auto industry here.

It was a Pontiac T 2000. You should know your junk better than that. And my brother had a Chevette. He got nearly 500,000 miles on that car. And with only three engine replacements.

The Dodge Pro series Vans are made in Turkey by Fiat.

Now that Turkey has lost their favored trade status with the US - that is not going to help Fiat. Expect the vans to go up in price.

But that was just a phase - with Land Rover and Renault, its a constant feature

FCA’s main big bargaining chips are the Ram Truck and Jeep divisions, the company’s two big money makers. They’ve allowed the Chrysler and Dodge passenger car divisions to die on the vine. Chrysler is down to two models: the Pacifica minivan and 300 sedan - not much of a lineup. Dodge continues to soldier on by creating special editions of the Challenger and Charger, but there’s been no full redesign of any of their vehicles in almost 10 years. When was the last time Chrysler or Dodge showed off a concept car at an auto show? There haven’t even been any “teaser” sketches from FCA hinting at what a new Dodge or Chrysler model would look like. Their designs are so old, the dealers should issue antique plates with the cars.

My Peugeot ate its German made Automatique Transmission Type ZF. (the French and Germans haven’t quite gotten over that WWII thing)

It had to be sent to Germany for repairs.

Long, long ago... a fellow student and proud owner of a Renault Dauphine, had an unusual problem.

In cold weather, it would start ok, but it was in gear and rolling! Turning off the ignition, or standing on the brake would stop it.
A few laps around the parking lot and the neutral function would return. More laps for colder weather.

He even had a path through the grass and snow to avoid traffic. And it was well used.

Other than that, it was a fine automobile, always started, used little gas.
And rest assured, the price was right.

Speaking of automatic transmissions, the 1964 era Renault Dauphin had a push button automatic controlled on the left of the dashboard like the Plymouth and other Chrysler cars then. I saw Richard diamond use one in an episode.

I’m waiting for the ‘Tata’ from India to become available here. I’ll buy one , get some stick-on letters and spell ‘bodacious’ on it.

The A-Team made a sort of tank out of one.

It was the girl reporter’s car.

A few girls in my high school class ran those Chevettes to death and they kept going somehow.

Let’s see: Fiat, Jeep, Nissan, Ram, Maserati, Alfa-Romano under one company? Interesting...

So now it will be a company that breaks down, surrenders, and sells itself cheap.
