FULL TITLE: Why Hollywood Is Weaponizing Nostalgia Against Trumpfrom 'Laugh-In' to "All in the Family' to 'The Jeffersons'
"Laugh-In" first hit the small screen more than 50 years ago. "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons" debuted in 1971 and 1975, respectively.
And now all three are back.
Netflix recently rolled out "Still Laugh-In: The Stars Celebrate." The reunion special, featuring original cast members like Ruth Buzzi and Lily Tomlin, recreated classic bits from the show. The original "Laugh-In" leaned to the left, but it brokered comedy bits with a wink, a smile and a bikini.
The reunion special trashed President Donald Trump in coarse terms, by comparison.
This week, ABC recreated two classic episodes from "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons." The episodes touched on race, class distinctions and other issues near and dear to original creator Norman Lear's heart. Stars like Woody Harrelson, Marisa Tomei, Jamie Foxx, and Wanda Sykes brought Archie Bunker and friends back to life.
Why?
Nostalgia sells. That's never been more true than at this cultural moment. Just ask the folks behind "Stranger Things," a show that refuses to let the '80s go away. There's something else in play, though.
Today's stars leverage everything in their arsenal against President Donald Trump. They flex their social media accounts, incorporate anti-Trump rants into films and TV shows, and turn awards shows into Democratic pep rallies.
Robert De Niro alone spends more time cursing out President Trump than starring in movies worthy of his talent.
So it's only natural to look to the past to hit Trump anew. The "Laugh-In" special allowed progressive stars to do just that. The sitcom recreations, though, offered a more subtle approach to the same model. The shows leaned on the original scripts with only minor modifications.

Not that I was in any hurry to see any of these reboots anyway, but now I know to avoid them.
Lily Tomlin’s gagwriter gave Guv. Ann ‘not my mawww’ Richards the line about Bush being born with a silver foot in his mouth (”he cain’t halp it!!”)
The so-called “entertainment” industry is run by perverts.
and the proof that hollywood sucks and will never be as funny as they used to be, or as popular, is the fact that these lousy reboots won’t be nearly as watched and beloved as the original ones were- while the originals were no doubt left leaning producers and actors- they were still fairly polite about their political differences and opinions- today’s reboots no doubt will be nasty vile and unwatchable by all but the most vile nasty segment in American
I had some small thoughts of checking these out in a month or so but now....I will never watch them. More complete GARBAGE PROPAGANDA from the evil people who want control of my life and thoughts. No way!
So they’re showing they have no new ideas while showing they can’t keep their “orange man bad” ideology out of it. Hollywood is now 95% social tumor.
2019 is not 1969. Donald Trump is not Richard Nixon. And Archie Bunker was a straw man.
... and don’t forget, far from trashing him, Nixon had a cameo on the original Laugh-In.
the fact that these lousy reboots wont be nearly as watched and beloved as the original ones
And Battlestar Galactica was a towering improvement over its original.
“Sock it to me,” Nixon said.
Well, thats one parallel as true today as it was then: Any Republican that tries to make nice just enables the liberals to continue using them as a punching bag.
Yeah, I wasn’t politicized back then, but I’ve watched modern day reruns of the show, it doesn’t “lean” any particular direction I can see.
I’d always preferred Pacino over DeNiro, but still watched his stuff. Those days are long gone.
“Sock it to me”. From Nixon’s mouth to America’s ears in 1969
“Sucks to be you”. From PDJT’s mouth to ALL libtards from D.C. to L.A. in the very near future, I hope.
Worse still these recent efforts are just using the titles...not the spirit of the originals
Not really. Take that red pill and watch them again.
Civilizational rot and cultural degeneracy with a smile.
At least the best part of Laugh In passed on her ass genes.
“Sock it to me!”
