In one of the most painfully awkward interviews in recent memory, progressive author Naomi Wolf appeared on the BBC 3 to promote her upcoming book, Outrages: Sex, Censorship, and the Criminalization of Love only to be informed by the interviewer that her soon-to-be-released work is entirely based on Wolfs own misunderstanding of a dated legal term
.....
During a radio interview with the BBCs Matthew Sweet yesterday, Wolf as well as the rest of the world found out that her new book is wildly fallacious. The interview quickly went viral.
I found several dozen executions, Wolf said referencing men who she believed were executed in Britain in the 1800s for sodomy. [This] misapprehension that is in every website that the last man was executed for sodomy in Britain in 1835.
I dont think youre right about this, Sweet replied, before reading off a portion of her book in which Wolf writes: Teenagers were convicted more often. Indeed, that year, 14-year-old Thomas Silva was actually executed for committing sodomy, the boy was indicted for an unnatural offense, guilty, death recorded. This is the first time the phrase unnatural offense entered the Old Baileys records.
Thomas Silva wasnt executed, Sweet explained. Death recorded I was really surprised by this and I looked it up death recorded is whats in most of these cases that youve identified as executions. It doesnt mean he was executed it was a category that was created in 1823 that allowed judges to abstain from pronouncing a sentence of death on any capital convict that saw to be a fit subject for pardon.

Funny just went to amazon to look at the reviews. Reviews are not permitted. interesting
Camille Paglia, who has always had Wolf’s head on a platter, is going to make a meal of this mistake!
Nevertheless, every word of this tripe will be forever treated as absolute, fell from the sky on golden tablets truth.
Progs weave propaganda from nothing and then hang it on the wall alongside all their other lies.
EX: Matthew Shepherd was murdered by two rednecks when they discovered he was homosexual.
It’s just too good a story to fact check and so it becomes burned into the mythology forever.
“Well he caught her although I must say no one would read death recorded and interpret that to mean he wasnt executed. Its poorly worded. However if youre going to write a book like that you must do your homework and Wolf failed.”
Worse than that. If she had done ANY real research into her 14 year old example, she would have found out he wasn’t executed and actually got a light sentence.
Maybe someone should introduce this esteemed author to Google.
Shes too old for that Farrah Fawcett hairstyle.
Truth, History, and accuracy are of no account when you have a liberal point to make.
Wolfes book will still be used by the gay Nazi crowd to lie about Western values.
The problem with highly educated persons is that it is impossible for them to ever learn beyond their PhD. Convinced of their intelligence, they ignore all new evidence.
And yet the interviewer found the mistake with a cursory examination of her book?
If it weren’t for lies, liberals would have nothing to say.
Ah yes and also the Rather variant....fake but accurate
I don’t think they will anymore ; ) How humiliating!
You're exactly right, my mistake. :^)
Thats a common thing, limiting something to either/or when both/and is most likely. Now that youre aware of it, look for those situations. Pops up more than you might think.
