Full Headline: School district rescinds job offer for fired cafeteria worker after student's parents accuse her of cover-up

A New Hampshire school district said it no longer wants a fired high school cafeteria worker to get her job back after a student's parent said she tried to cover-up giving the boy free food.

The lunchroom worker, Bonnie Kimball, said she was fired in March . . . . because she gave a Mascoma Valley Regional High School student free lunch when he did not have money to pay for food.

After Kimball's firing gained national attention last week, Mascoma Valley Regional School District demanded that Cafe Services re-hire her and give her back pay for time lost.

The story, however, took a surprising turn when the president of Fresh Picks Cafe, the division of Cafe Services that managed Kimball, accused her of being "dishonest." Brian Stone said she let the student take a la cart items without paying, which goes against school policy, and also said the student had not been charged for food in the past three months.

Now, the student's mother is weighing in on the controversy and told the New Hampshire Union Leader that Kimball sent her son Facebook messages trying to cover-up her giving him the free food.

In a March 28 message, Kimball allegedly told the teenager to pay his lunch tab because her manager saw her give the student food and would be there again the next day.

“We will prolly get written up, but we can make it look good. Lol,” Kimball allegedly wrote in the message. In another message after she was fired, Kimball allegedly asked the student if he and his classmates could contact a reporter. A recent message showed that Kimball allegedly bragged to the student about . . .

It just goes to show, that there’s always more to the story.

Actually consider there is another side to a story reported by the press? That’s crazy talk.

because she gave a Mascoma Valley Regional High School student free lunch when he did not have money to pay for food.

Why would someone go to the cafeteria, stand in line, put food on their tray, and then walk up to the cashier - when they don't have any money in their pocket?

‘It just goes to show, that there’s always more to the story.’

Agree - I’ve seen a lot of the crap the media puts out, and I am ALWAYS suspicious of stories designed to tug on emotions. In this case, I figured they wanted her gone for a long time, due to crap like this and probably other crap - they got their chance, and so the ‘terminated’ her. The media, of course, never investigates and had their story - ‘Big Caterer fires poor woman for helping a kid in need’, and that was it.

There are 3 sides to every story.

My side, your side, and the truth.

None of this makes sense.

A kid might do that, if he knows the lunch lady will always give him free food.

Nobody looks good coming out of this little caper.
Now the former Lunch Lady may find it difficult to get Unemployment Benefits, or if retired, she may discover her pension is held ‘under review’ for the next 10 years.
School Districts have very long memories and most of them do hold grudges.

From your link....

... A recent message showed that Kimball allegedly bragged to the student about going on a television program and meeting famous people.

NBC News has not been able to verify the authenticity of the Facebook messages, and attempts to reach Kimball were not successful.

The student’s mother also said the perception of Kimball acting charitably towards a child in need was incorrect, saying her son is well taken care of and was supposed to pack his own lunch for school. “She did not get fired for feeding a hungry child,” the mother told the New Hampshire Union Leader.....

If the kid already knows the fix is in and someone is giving out “free” food that isn’t their’s to give...

Did the kid’s mother give him money to pay for lunch? If so, what did he use it for? If not, then why not? If she could not afford the price of lunch, did she prepare him a lunch to take to school? If not, why not. Why is she making an issue out of this? In doing so, she is making herself look like an unfit parent. Has she ever thanked the cafeteria worker for helping her son? If not, she has a character flaw.

As an aside, I read on FR yesterday that we spend $150 billion a year on free stuffs for illegals. I also read that they, in turn, are sending $150 billion a year home, without paying taxes.

If we stopped the flood of the world's unwashed and unwanted, crimigrants, we'd probably have the cash to give all students free lunch.

Novel thought. Feed our own children before we give Mohammed and Sasha a house, car, EBT, medical.......

The mom claims her son was supposed to pack himself a lunch before heading to school.

What bothers me is that this adult cafeteria worker was private-messaging the student. She should’ve contacted the parent(s) the first time she let the kid have free ala carte food items. Instead, she cooperated with the kid for months, and now the mom probably owes a lot of money for his big lunches. lol

If I were this mom, I’d be angry with both the kid (for essentially stealing food) and the lunchroom worker (for helping him steal and then secretly working with him to get away with it).

It turns out there is a free lunch given to students by the school. But this kid was picking out other (better?) lunches, and the lunchroom lady was giving them to him for free.

I wonder if all schools set aside some lunches to hand out for free to students who don’t have money... They probably do.
