Anti-slavery activist Harriet Tubman wont appear on US currency for nearly a decade, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Wednesday.
An image of Tubman, a former slave who helped others escape to freedom through the Underground Railroad, was supposed to replace President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill next year.
The primary reason weve looked at redesigning the $20 bill is for counterfeiting issues, Mnuchin said in front of Congress on Wednesday.
Based upon this, the new $20 bill will now not come out until 2028, he added.
President Trump criticized the plan to replace Jackson on the note during the 2016 presidential campaign.

And yes, the comment about Tubman was reprehensible, but you know and I know that if she appears on the $20, a lot of people aren't going to use them anymore. Part of the reason is no one knows who she is thank to liberals destroying education, and part is Harriet isn't exactly telegenic.
I agree with you here. Any switch of current portrait subjects opens the doors to all manner of propaganda. Better to keep the status quo until we can retake the educational institutions from the leftists.
Y’know, Aunt Esther was a good Christian woman.
That's 'cuz this lady ruined the name.
Stupid Freepers at their finest
Does not belong on any bill.
One very ugly customer who belongs on the $30 bill ...
Just in time for the renaming of Washington D.C. to Obamaville.
Push it off until it is forgotten, this is absolutely ridiculous. Removing a founding father for this?
The foolish decision to replace Andrew Jackson’s portrait with anyone would have been bad for America. President Jackson’s portrait is iconic and helps ensure respect for U.S. currency around the world. And Jackson looks completely cool in that portrait.
If you want to dump someone, dump Hamilton from the $10 bill. Alexander H was an actual bastard who cheated on his wife and paid hush money to keep it quiet. Plus, his portrait looks like a dork. He was never President and did not come up with cool ideas and inventions like Ben Franklin did.
That takes 9 years?
That’s a great pic. Who has the authority to select exactly WHICH picture will be used? Imagine the look on Rat faces if the bills were released and this is what they see. Delicious! Does a committee decide? Is it Mnuchin? Trump? Seriously, we need to start a petition or something.
wouldn’t counterfeiting best copy a $20 of 2009?
The twenty has had a number of anti-counterfeiting features added over the years - security strip, background colors, watermarks, color shifting number. I don't know how much more they are planning to do or why it takes 9 years to do it.
It's probably just to delay taking Jackson off of it, which was a dumb idea to begin with.
“Nice to see a gun-toting Republican on a bill.”
Harriet Tubman money represents a gun-toting, cigar-chomping, Whiskey Drinking hardcore Republican. Which is in fact something that she actually was, along with being a brave hearted Woman
LOL! I thought of that, too!
That’s a Colt Peacemaker she has in her hand. A little early for that firearm.
