It’s hard to get over my lifelong admiration of the British, but that edifice is crumbling and turning to dust before my eyes.
I no longer find much to admire about Britain or the Commonwealth. She really was "great" up to the Crystal Palace exhibition, though.
My Anglophilia failed after living in the UK.
This is still a very beautiful country with a lot of history, but the people in general have p&55ed it away. This is no longer the England of Wodehouse or Biggles etc.
They were great from about 1750 to about 1950. 200 years is not a bad run.
But all imperial states decline and crash. Look at Babylon, Persepolis, Athens, Rome, etc. It is inevitable
