My bride said there is a lot of pressure for women to “hang together” against anything pro life.
She is an outlyer, and has lost friends for being vocally pro life.
We like to pretend that gender, ethic background, and culture don’t play a part in politics. It is the main reason for many things. For instance, on paper the Catholic church is pro life. In some places it is. In the US, most Catholics are pro death because they hate the Republicans.
Doesn’t make sense till you see it as a tribal thing. Just like my family raised us to mistrust the Swedes.
Well, it’s their own babies. A convict is an abstract being to them. A baby is personal.

Culture is faith. Faith is Culture.
Read some old books. The Catholic Church did not like America because
1. She was a decedent of their hated enemy, Britain.
2. They viewed the founding philosophy as Masonic, Satanic, and therefore evil (as they viewed Great Britain).
3. Many early American politicians did not want Catholic immigrants for the above reasons, and worked to limit or exclude them (they did the same with German Lutherans who did not conform until forced to by gunpoint around WWI).
That is culture.
The Catholic Church as a political organization has been around for a long time. They did not survive this long with out having the ability to play the game with the best of them. So that is why in the USA they are on the lay level very much anti-christian and in places like Africa very much pro-christian.
Simply put, I have never seen a single “Catholic” pol be excommunicated for abortion. I have seen it threatened by the Pope himself over illegal immigration. Sit back and think about the culture, the politics, and the long term strategy about those stands.
On a personal level, my very devout Catholic mother in law is VERY pro life. She volunteers at local prolife shelters. She has told me many times that is her prime consideration in politics. However, while she may not vote for the dem, she will never vote for he GOP because “That would be anti Catholic”.
My mother in law is not an outlier
Well, as one of those rascally fundamentalist evangelicals, I’ve seen the importance of always choosing the stance of Christianity if culture differs from it. Doing otherwise would be to be unfaithful to the Lord, with its unhappy consequences.
On the other hand, I can’t be believing fallacies or overbroad generalizations. Feuds and friendships between the church and politicians of long ago have zero to do with what Christians ought to be doing now. Politicians and political trends and tendencies change. The bible stays the same.
It is absolutely silly for a church to proclaim that it’s clinging to a particular political party for aye.
There are consequences to this kind of social self-hate, all right.
There are none more closed minded and culturally fascist as the leftists who refuse to see the good that comes from conservative policies in action.
Lefty is about the power of Self; most conservatism is, in one sense or another, about the power of God.
The two are opposed — we are all sinners. We have to be accommodated to God to be blessed.
Way too close to reality to be from AOC.

The real issue is MONEY, the abortion business is a multi billion dollar industry and they, the abortion providers and the political hacks that receive BIG donations are in a flop sweat over no more money. Check the donor lists of Planed Parenthood and the politicians receiving these donations.

I’m thinking that it is the same concept that allowed gays to take over the Episcopal Church, which they now own. Gay theologians convinced liberal Christians that to reject the gay lifestyle was unChristian, especially if God was responsible for their gayness. Once they overcame that obstacle, they were assured that “God” accepts their actions and they can continue in sin without consequences.
With abortion there are many women who were told a baby is not a baby and it is ok to satisfy your needs and scrape the “fetus” out without consequences. They chose to believe this and if they stop believing they will have to admit some kind of wrongdoing and the consequences of the resultant self loathing. Since God is irrelevant to them. there is no forgiveness or escape from the self hatred.
Therefore the desperate pretense.
Lives would matter only tangentially, inasmuch as they are useful to their schemes.
