You are totally missing the point. An American consulate at Benghazi was under attack, desperate brave Americans were fighting and dying. Relief in the form of the US Navy was available. Those brave men might have been saved if they were reinforced. Gowdy had an obligation to find out why Obama could not or would not be disturbed to give a “cross border” order in that emergency. It went on for hours. Gowdy failed to inform the American people, provide oversight and the result is such a scenario is likely to happen again since he did not find anyone accountable for the situation. The Navy commander in the eastern Mediterrean on that day should have testified and that testimony would have been very interesting for the American people.

I’m not missing any point. Only the president can give the order for In Extremis forces to cross the border. We don’t have to ask anybody what 0bama did. We know he did nothing otherwise those forces would have gone.

Nice try switching your point from “stand down” orders to “finding out why Obama could not or would not be disturbed to give a “cross border” order.” I’m not buying into deceptions like that so take a hike.

Sorry, you are missing the point. You are nitpicking in defense of Gowdy. There can be no doubt he failed miserably in his oversight role on Benghazi and many other hugely important issues. Whether that was by design or happenstance is really the only question. The Congressional GOP was Obama’s doormat for 8 years and anybody playing the slightest attention should know that.

That he is now running his mouth while now out of office is beyond galling after he spent the fall undermining POTUS in the Democrat media. The man said he wanted to get back home and get out of politics. This isn’t doing that. He needs to go away. Period.

What exactly did you expect Holder/Lynch would do about what Gawdy exposed? Did want him to personally “slap the cuffs” on people?

So we don’t forget - - by Travis McGee
OBAMA WENT TO BED

The biggest stench is that it is beginning to look like Obama went night-night to rest up for Las Vegas, instead of seeing the crisis through and (had he been awake) sending a rescue mission.

After 6-8 hours in a few “Fort Apaches” with running street battles between, like a mini Blackhawk Down, the living Americans must have been thinking, “Any minute now, here come the helicopters.”

But they didn’t. So even though Delta had forward staged to Sigonella Sicily (rumint) from base in Germany, nobody was willing or able to pull the trigger and send a rescue force. Or even a few F-18 supersonic flybys, to bust windows and warn, “Here comes American airpower, and you camel jockeys know what that means.” Just a a morale booster it would have helped the besieged staffers.

But it was never sent, not even a lousy supersonic low-level flyby.

Here is the deal. The military does a lot on its own, under standing orders and SOPs, the minute they see that the consulate is under attack, and the ambassador and others are in a “safe room” hiding. At that moment, things happen on autopilot in real time. Everybody in the Navy and USAF chain of command swings into a crisis contingency plan mode. What ships are closest? Helicopters? Marines? Delta is in Germany? Get them moving right now. Where is closest? Sigonella, for now. It’s NATO, no permission needed, just fly. En route in C-17s, the Delta guys would even be prepping for an immediate action raid, that is, the C-17 will fly directly to some desert road outside of Benghazi, and here comes “The Raid On Entebbe,” crisis mode, canned actions, but they would do it. If they were ordered to.

Or Marines on amphib ships in the central Med, if any were available, would also be put on the real-time options board.

But while all of that military staging would have happened/did happen, what they cannot do on their own say-so is cross an international border without an order from the NCA, the National Command Authority, and that means POTUS, Obama.

Only POTUS can authorize a cross-border hostile mission. That is, guns clear, no official permission from the Tripoli govt (if it really exiss outside State Dept fantasies.)

Only one man can pull that trigger and say, “GO!” Obama.

(But for America to act “unilaterally” would have meant the bogus Libyan Arab Spring and so-called new govt. that we were propping up didn’t really exist. Libyan sovereignty must be held sacrosanct, even the false image of one, where in reality, Al Queda is top dog. Even when an Al Queda offshoot is your external “security,” namely, The 17th of February Martyrs Brigade.” (IOW, the White House thought they had a “deal” with AQ in Behghazi, since we were helping to run weaponry from Libya to their pals in Syria. So there was an “institutional bias” at State against crossing the border on a rescue up sin permisso.

Anyway, be that as it may, no General or Admiral will order the Marines ashore, or a Delta raid or even an F-18 low-level supersonic flyby. They can not and will not cross a border without an order from POTUS via the NCA.

But no order came, as of midnight. And then none would come. Because the POTUS retired for the night with a “do not disturb” sign on his door, punted, and went to bed, to be well rested for Las Vegas.

While his ambassador was off the U.S. radar, missing, at that moment possibly being dragged down a Benghazi street or even raped. But that is when Obama went to bed. Midnight in DC is 0600 in Beghazi.

That is the greatest scandal of Benghazi. The POTUS slept through it, while all around the world, military forces were poised for the Raid on Entebbe or any other damn thing the POTUS ordered them to do. (And the were raring to go, believe me.)

But the POTUS said, “We’ll discuss it further in the morning,” and then he went to bed around midnight in DC, 0600 in Benghazi, with a missing ambassador and a crisis in full mega flap process.

He punted. He went to bed.

God help us. I think that’s the big secret they are keeping. The President went to bed, with his lost Ambassador being dragged through streets.

Obama went to bed.

***Only one man can pull that trigger and say, “GO!” Obama***

I have been repeating this every since that fateful day of infamy... and the commanding general of Africom resigned in silence, saving his retirement I suppose. I wish he had blown the lid off.

As far as 0bama going to bed - I am not convinced. Do we really know where he and Hildy were?

Benghazi’s Smoking Gun? Only President Can Give ‘Cross-Border Authority’
PJ Media ^ | November 2, 2012 | Matt Bracken
Posted on 11/2/2012, 8:45:37 AM by Travis McGee

The Benghazi debacle boils down to a single key factor — the granting or withholding of “cross-border authority.” This opinion is informed by my experience as a Navy SEAL officer who took a NavSpecWar Detachment to Beirut.

Once the alarm is sent – in this case, from the consulate in Benghazi — dozens of HQs are notified and are in the planning loop in real time, including AFRICOM and EUCOM, both located in Germany. Without waiting for specific orders from Washington, they begin planning and executing rescue operations, including moving personnel, ships, and aircraft forward toward the location of the crisis. However, there is one thing they can’t do without explicit orders from the president: cross an international border on a hostile mission.

That is the clear “red line” in this type of a crisis situation.

No administration wants to stumble into a war because a jet jockey in hot pursuit (or a mixed-up SEAL squad in a rubber boat) strays into hostile territory. Because of this, only the president can give the order for our military to cross a nation’s border without that nation’s permission. For the Osama bin Laden mission, President Obama granted CBA for our forces to enter Pakistani airspace.

On the other side of the CBA coin: in order to prevent a military rescue in Benghazi, all the POTUS has to do is not grant cross-border authority. If he does not, the entire rescue mission (already in progress) must stop in its tracks.

Ships can loiter on station, but airplanes fall out of the sky, so they must be redirected to an air base (Sigonella, in Sicily) to await the POTUS decision on granting CBA. If the decision to grant CBA never comes, the besieged diplomatic outpost in Benghazi can rely only on assets already “in country” in Libya — such as the Tripoli quick reaction force and the Predator drones. These assets can be put into action on the independent authority of the acting ambassador or CIA station chief in Tripoli. They are already “in country,” so CBA rules do not apply to them.

How might this process have played out in the White House?

Nice deconsruction.........Gowdy flopped badly.

He has no credibility whatsoever. Everything he says now is suspect.

He’s desperately trying to re-ingratiate himself w/ the conservatives he left behind.

What can NEVER be forgiven is that Gowdy treated Hillary with kid gloves.

He wanted her testimony in private.....she demanded public testimony.

Gowdy caved......figured he could do himself a favor....showcase himself for higher office.

We saw a disgusting Gowdy performance.

A so-called conservative head of a fact-finding committee......sucking up to Hillary bigtime.

Read your original article and the posts from 2012 for the first time. Your article pretty much gets to the bottom line. American military assets were available and ready to relieve those desperate Americans at Benghazi. Gowdy as the chairman of the investigating Congressional committee had the obligation to investigate, cut through the evasions and political cover ups and find out just why the cross border order was never issued. Can’t imagine that during those desperate hours senior military officers weren’t clamoring for a response. Gowdy failed miserably in hid duty to the American people and those that sacrificed and are always willing to sacrifice.
