The Coalition is on track to form government in its own right as it leads in four of the remaining six undecided seats.
To form majority government, the Coalition needs 76 seats.
It is currently has 74 and, according to the ABC, the Coalition is currently ahead in Chisholm, Wentworth, Macquarie and Boothby.
Opinion polls, critics and bookmakers all pointed towards a sweeping win for the Labor Party, but Prime Minister Scott Morrison defied the odds and has been handed another three years in power.
The Coalition won despite 55 Newspolls in a row predicting they would lose - echoing how the US president rose to power against pollsters' predictions in 2016.
The Liberal campaign had emphasised the cost of Labor's climate change policies, which included reducing carbon emissions by 45 per cent by 2030.
And while Labor campaigned against the controversial Adani mine, the Coalition focused on the jobs boost of the new development.
Labor remains ahead in Lilley and Cowan.

The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) generally does a very good job on crunching the numbers - as of a few minutes ago, they have the conservative Liberal/National coalition on 75 seats, to Labor on 65. 6 seats have gone to minor parties or independents, 5 remain undecided.
There are 151 seats in the House, so 76 is the magic number for an outright majority.
Even with 75, the coalition can govern effectively - because one of the minor party members (Bob Katter of Katter's Australian Party - yes, his party is named after him) will support the Coalition on most issues - he's more conservative than the vast majority of the coalition members.
But I'd still rather see a coalition majority in its own right - Katter's support then becomes a bonus rather than a necessity.
The Liberal campaign had emphasised the cost of Labor’s climate change policies, which included reducing carbon emissions by 45 per cent by 2030.
Green New Deal fail.
One of the most well-known compulsory voting systems is in Australia. All Australian citizens over the age of 18 (except those of unsound mind or those convicted of serious crimes) must be registered to vote and show up at the poll on election day.
“Since 1924 Australians have been legally required to enrol to vote in national elections, following a fall in turnout at the 1922 federal election. They are fined $20 if they fail to turn up. As a result, turnout has been as high as 96 per cent in some elections and has never dropped below 91 per cent since mandatory voting was introduced, according to CNN.
Australia is one of only 19 countries out of 166 electoral democracies to make voting compulsory, and is the only English-speaking country to do so .’
Thanks for keeping us updated in the last couple of days. Woohoo! Majority!
Is this Australia’s first experience with Fake News and its opinion polls?
No - but it’s certainly the most spectacular example so far.
And it has to be said - Tony Abbott was removed from office in 2015 largely because the polls said he was unpopular, so his party dumped him.
If the polls had been accurate, he probably would have remained Prime Minister and we never would have had to deal with Turnbull.
Fox News is gradually degrading more and more like the MSM, I guess, since the sons have taken control.
Be nice if some wealthy Conservative types, not the Koch’s, could get some financing for OANN or buy out one of the big 3 networks and get something else out there.
It was fun watching ABC (Australia) covering the election yesterday. Their dumb-ass leftists were exactly like our dumb-ass leftists, only with an accent, and I don’t think five minutes went by where they didn’t prattle on about “global warming” as if this little fairy tale of theirs was the most important thing in the universe.
impressive history of years of national elections between 93 and 96% turnout

Their stock market opens tonight at 8pm (EST) I believe. That will be interesting to watch.
Its nice know that we here in the United States dont have the market cornered on triggered snowflakes.
Throw out your Muslims and give the people back their guns!
Could it have something to do with the fact that a muzz murdered an Australian in muzz-majority Minnesota and that Australians saw that justice was hardly done in the case?
The Daily Smear and the fellow Globalist Radical Socialist media cabal fail again .
The Smear and the Murdoch's and other leftists peddling the usual
Bogus Phony polls telling everyone it was over and the left one .
Its time to arresting these phony media criminals for the propaganda and lies they intentionally peddle .
I loved to see the Murdoch's and Disney execs and CNN staff frog marched to prison.
I have had enough .
I suppose that's possible but "fake" polls aren't the only possible explanation. For example,in my neck of the woods I dare not put any bumper stickers on my car for fear of having may car vandalized...which happened with the car I just sold a year ago.I'll bet that there are many people, nationwide, who have similar fears.
Perhaps the polls were wrong in Australia because people didn't dare admit their true feeling so as to not be labeled "racist"...etc,etc.
when 95% vote, why would polls be inaccurate? registered = likely voters.
When Democrats get presidency & Congress they will make mandatory voter registration and voting, but no id required , of course.
was that an issue in AU?
Poll during the day when the conservatives are working.
Aossume a 60/40 Labor/Conservative split so that if the raw poll says 50/50 it gets adjusted back to the assumed number.
Minnisota does not have a muzz majority. It has a loud, evil, leftist totalitarian, fascist,” human rights” dickta, that has taken over state and some local governments.
